Vegetable Puree Market Size in Eastern Europe

The total consumption indicated a tangible expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% over the last decade. Exports in Eastern Europe

In 2022, overseas shipments of vegetable puree decreased by -15.6% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 20%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, vegetable puree exports reduced dramatically to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 19% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Poland (X tons), Bulgaria (X tons) and Russia (X tons) represented roughly 75% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Hungary (X tons), creating a 14% share of total exports. The Czech Republic (X tons), Romania (X tons) and Belarus (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Romania (with a CAGR of +20.9%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest vegetable puree supplying countries in Eastern Europe were Poland ($X), Bulgaria ($X) and Hungary ($X), with a combined 70% share of total exports. Russia, the Czech Republic, Romania and Belarus lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 26%.

Among the main exporting countries, Romania, with a CAGR of +20.4%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, shrinking by -7% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a slight curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belarus (+6.1%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in Eastern Europe

In 2022, after four years of growth, there was decline in overseas purchases of vegetable puree, when their volume decreased by -3.5% to X tons. Total imports indicated a moderate increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +72.7% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 22%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2021, and then reduced slightly in the following year.

In value terms, vegetable puree imports contracted to $X in 2022. Overall, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 18%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Russia was the key importer of vegetable puree in Eastern Europe, with the volume of imports finishing at X tons, which was near 69% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Romania (X tons), creating an 11% share of total imports. Slovakia (X tons), Poland (X tons), Hungary (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons), Belarus (X tons), Ukraine (X tons) and Bulgaria (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Imports into Russia increased at an average annual rate of +5.5% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Romania (+11.5%), Belarus (+8.0%), Bulgaria (+4.8%), Hungary (+3.4%), Ukraine (+3.2%), Poland (+1.5%) and Slovakia (+1.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Romania emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +11.5% from 2012-2022. By contrast, the Czech Republic (-13.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Russia (+9.8 p.p.) and Romania (+5.4 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while the Czech Republic saw its share reduced by -13.7% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported vegetable puree in Eastern Europe, comprising 48% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Romania ($X), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by Poland, with a 5.9% share.

In Russia, vegetable puree imports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Romania (+14.0% per year) and Poland (+2.2% per year).

The import price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, which is down by -2.7% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a pronounced setback.
