In general, exports, however, continue to indicate resilient growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 179% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2021, and then declined in the following year.

In value terms, video game console exports declined significantly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 171%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2021, and then reduced markedly in the following year.

Exports by Country

Poland was the largest exporter of video game consoles (not operated by means of payments) in Eastern Europe, with the volume of exports resulting at X units, which was near 54% of total exports in 2022. Slovakia (X units) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 13% share, followed by the Czech Republic (12%). The following exporters - Russia (X units), Latvia (X units), Belarus (X units), Lithuania (X units), Estonia (X units) and Hungary (X units) - together made up 17% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to video game console exports from Poland stood at +20.8%. At the same time, Belarus (+55.5%), Latvia (+34.2%), Lithuania (+25.1%), Russia (+24.1%), Estonia (+15.7%), Slovakia (+14.3%), the Czech Republic (+10.0%) and Hungary (+1.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Belarus emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +55.5% from 2012-2022. Poland (+16 p.p.), Belarus (+3 p.p.), Latvia (+2.5 p.p.) and Russia (+1.9 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Slovakia, Hungary and the Czech Republic saw its share reduced by -3.2%, -6.2% and -10.1% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Poland ($X) remains the largest video game console supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 71% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the Czech Republic ($X), with an 11% share of total exports. It was followed by Slovakia, with an 8.5% share.

In Poland, video game console exports expanded at an average annual rate of +30.1% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the Czech Republic (+21.7% per year) and Slovakia (+10.7% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per unit in 2022, dropping by -10.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a prominent expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the export price increased by 49%. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per unit), while Belarus ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Czech Republic (+10.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Eastern Europe

In 2022, the amount of video game consoles (not operated by means of payments) imported in Eastern Europe shrank rapidly to X units, reducing by -16.3% compared with the previous year. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a resilient expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 98%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X units in 2021, and then declined remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, video game console imports fell rapidly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a prominent increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 119% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2021, and then declined dramatically in the following year.

Imports by Country

Poland (X units) and Russia (X units) represented roughly 66% of total imports in 2022. The Czech Republic (X units) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 12% share, followed by Slovakia (7%) and Hungary (4.5%). Romania (X units) and Bulgaria (X units) took a minor share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Bulgaria (with a CAGR of +25.8%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Poland ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported video game consoles (not operated by means of payments) in Eastern Europe, comprising 61% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Czech Republic ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by Russia, with an 8.7% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Poland totaled +22.5%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the Czech Republic (+13.5% per year) and Russia (-3.9% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per unit, shrinking by -9.8% against the previous year. Import price indicated a moderate expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, video game console import price decreased by -26.2% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the import price increased by 48%.
