The East European video game console market fell markedly to $X in 2022, with a decrease of -24.8% against the previous year. Overall, consumption showed a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X, and then shrank remarkably in the following year.

In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of video game consoles, when their volume decreased by -16.2% to X units. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 173% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X units in 2021, and then declined remarkably in the following year.
In value terms, video game console exports declined remarkably to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, recorded significant growth. Exports by Country
In 2022, Poland (X units) was the key exporter of video game consoles, generating 57% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Slovakia (X units) and the Czech Republic (X units), together constituting a 27% share of total exports. Latvia (X units), Lithuania (X units), Estonia (X units) and Russia (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to video game console exports from Poland stood at +19.9%. At the same time, Latvia (+32.8%), Lithuania (+25.1%), Estonia (+15.5%), Russia (+15.0%), Slovakia (+13.2%) and the Czech Republic (+10.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Latvia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +32.8% from 2012-2022. Poland (+18 p.p.) and Latvia (+2.4 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Slovakia and the Czech Republic saw its share reduced by -3.1% and -8.1% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Poland ($X) remains the largest video game console supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 72% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the Czech Republic ($X), with a 12% share of total exports. It was followed by Slovakia, with an 8.6% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Poland stood at +30.1%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the Czech Republic (+21.7% per year) and Slovakia (+10.7% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per unit in 2022, reducing by -7.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a resilient expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 an increase of 49%. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per unit), while Russia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Czech Republic (+10.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Eastern Europe
In 2022, the amount of video game consoles imported in Eastern Europe dropped markedly to X units, reducing by -22.7% on the year before. In general, imports, however, saw resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 93% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X units in 2021, and then dropped sharply in the following year.
In value terms, video game console imports contracted markedly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 119% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2021, and then fell rapidly in the following year.
Imports by Country
Poland was the main importer of video game consoles in Eastern Europe, with the volume of imports finishing at X units, which was approx. 47% of total imports in 2022. The Czech Republic (X units) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 14% share, followed by Russia (14%), Slovakia (8.7%) and Hungary (5%). The following importers - Romania (X units) and Bulgaria (X units) - each finished at a 5.7% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to video game console imports into Poland stood at +12.1%. At the same time, Bulgaria (+25.5%), the Czech Republic (+10.0%), Hungary (+9.9%), Romania (+8.4%), Slovakia (+7.7%) and Russia (+6.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Bulgaria emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +25.5% from 2012-2022. While the share of Poland (+7.4 p.p.) and Bulgaria (+1.9 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Slovakia (-2.2 p.p.) and Russia (-6 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Poland ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported video game consoles in Eastern Europe, comprising 62% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by the Czech Republic ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Russia, with a 7.4% share.
In Poland, video game console imports increased at an average annual rate of +22.5% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the Czech Republic (+13.5% per year) and Russia (+8.1% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per unit, waning by -6.2% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the import price increased by 44% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per unit), while Hungary ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
