Over the period under review, production of attained the peak level at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in Eastern Europe

In 2022, approx. X litres of spirits, liqueurs and other spirituous beverages were exported in Eastern Europe; waning by -13.2% on the previous year. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 19%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X litres, and then declined in the following year.

In value terms, exports of spirits, liqueurs and other spirituous beverages declined modestly to $X in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 21%. Over the period under review, the exports of attained the peak figure at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Russia (X litres) and Poland (X litres) represented roughly 53% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Latvia (X litres), Ukraine (X litres) and the Czech Republic (X litres), together creating a 29% share of total exports. The following exporters - Belarus (X litres) and Lithuania (X litres) - together made up 7.3% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Lithuania (with a CAGR of +6.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Poland ($X), Latvia ($X) and Russia ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, with a combined 68% share of total exports.

Among the main exporting countries, Latvia, with a CAGR of +4.8%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per litre in 2022, picking up by 10% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the export price increased by 13% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per litre. From 2015 to 2022, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Latvia ($X per litre), while Ukraine ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belarus (+2.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Eastern Europe

Imports of spirits, liqueurs and other spirituous beverages reduced to X litres in 2022, with a decrease of -7% on the previous year's figure. Total imports indicated a mild expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +92.2% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 29%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X litres, and then shrank in the following year.

In value terms, imports of spirits, liqueurs and other spirituous beverages shrank modestly to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a noticeable expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +26.3% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 29%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then dropped modestly in the following year.

Imports by Country

Russia represented the main importing country with an import of around X litres, which amounted to 30% of total imports. Poland (X litres) took a 12% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Latvia (9.9%), the Czech Republic (7.9%), Hungary (7.5%), Romania (7%), Estonia (6.5%), Ukraine (6%) and Slovakia (4.8%).

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to spirits, liqueurs and other spirituous beverages imports into Russia stood at -2.4%. At the same time, Romania (+17.0%), Hungary (+11.7%), Poland (+8.2%), Slovakia (+6.5%), Latvia (+6.2%) and the Czech Republic (+5.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Romania emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +17.0% from 2012-2022. Estonia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Ukraine (-7.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Poland, Romania, Hungary, Latvia, the Czech Republic and Slovakia increased by +6, +5.3, +4.6, +3.7, +2.7 and +1.9 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X), Poland ($X) and Latvia ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together comprising 49% of total imports. These countries were followed by Romania, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Ukraine and Estonia, which together accounted for a further 41%.

Among the main importing countries, Romania, with a CAGR of +15.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per litre, rising by 5.3% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.3%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 8.5%. The level of import peaked at $X per litre in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Romania ($X per litre), while Estonia ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.
