Textile Wadding Market Size in Eastern Europe
The East European textile wadding market stood at $X in 2021, remaining constant against the previous year. The total consumption indicated a perceptible increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, consumption decreased by -15.8% against 2019 indices. Over the period under review, the market reached the peak level at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, textile wadding production expanded significantly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production showed a strong increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 26%. Over the period under review, production attained the peak level at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, after four years of growth, there was decline in shipments abroad of wadding of textile materials and articles thereof, when their volume decreased by -1% to X tons. Total exports indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +36.9% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when exports increased by 11%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2020, and then contracted in the following year.
In value terms, textile wadding exports rose modestly to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +48.5% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 23%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
Exports by Country
The biggest shipments were from Poland (X tons), Bulgaria (X tons), Russia (X tons), Hungary (X tons), Ukraine (X tons) and Lithuania (X tons), together resulting at 85% of total export. It was distantly followed by Belarus (X tons), creating a 5% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Belarus (with a CAGR of +42.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest textile wadding supplying countries in Eastern Europe were Lithuania ($X), Poland ($X) and Hungary ($X), with a combined 54% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Ukraine, Russia, Bulgaria and Belarus, which together accounted for a further 38%.
Belarus, with a CAGR of +34.3%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, surging by 3.7% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.7%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 10% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Lithuania ($X per ton), while Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Lithuania (+8.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Eastern Europe
After three years of growth, supplies from abroad of wadding of textile materials and articles thereof decreased by -7.7% to X tons in 2021. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 13%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then reduced in the following year.
In value terms, textile wadding imports reduced to $X in 2021. Overall, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 12% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Russia was the key importing country with an import of about X tons, which reached 38% of total imports. Poland (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 10% share, followed by Romania (9.2%), the Czech Republic (8.8%), Ukraine (8.5%), Belarus (7.7%) and Bulgaria (4.6%).
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to textile wadding imports into Russia stood at +2.2%. At the same time, Romania (+7.1%), Belarus (+3.9%), the Czech Republic (+3.5%) and Poland (+1.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Romania emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +7.1% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Bulgaria (-1.4%) and Ukraine (-2.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Romania (+3.5 p.p.) and Russia (+2.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Ukraine (-3.6 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported wadding of textile materials and articles thereof in Eastern Europe, comprising 29% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Poland ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by Romania, with a 12% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Russia totaled -1.4%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Poland (-1.1% per year) and Romania (+9.0% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, flattening at the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a slight decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when the import price increased by 11% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Ukraine ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Romania (+1.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
