Exports in Eastern Europe
For the seventh year in a row, Eastern Europe recorded growth in shipments abroad of water-skis, surfboards and sailboards, which increased by 8.7% to X units in 2022. In general, exports enjoyed prominent growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 33%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, water-skis and surfboards exports contracted to $X in 2022. Overall, exports saw a buoyant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 54%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then contracted in the following year.
Exports by Country
Poland was the largest exporter of water-skis, surfboards and sailboards in Eastern Europe, with the volume of exports resulting at X units, which was approx. 39% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Bulgaria (X units), the Czech Republic (X units), Belarus (X units), Slovakia (X units) and Romania (X units), together constituting a 46% share of total exports. Hungary (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to water-skis and surfboards exports from Poland stood at +28.6%. At the same time, Belarus (+168.0%), Romania (+67.1%), Hungary (+18.4%), Slovakia (+12.9%) and Bulgaria (+3.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Belarus emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +168.0% from 2012-2022. The Czech Republic experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. While the share of Poland (+30 p.p.), Belarus (+6.6 p.p.), Romania (+4.7 p.p.) and Hungary (+1.9 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Bulgaria (-19.6 p.p.) and the Czech Republic (-23.2 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Poland ($X), the Czech Republic ($X) and Bulgaria ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, together comprising 78% of total exports. Hungary, Romania, Slovakia and Belarus lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 12%.
Belarus, with a CAGR of +138.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per unit, dropping by -14.8% against the previous year. Export price indicated a tangible expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, water-skis and surfboards export price increased by +10.3% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 25%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit, and then reduced in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per unit), while Belarus ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Czech Republic (+11.8%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in Eastern Europe
For the seventh consecutive year, Eastern Europe recorded growth in purchases abroad of water-skis, surfboards and sailboards, which increased by 1.4% to X units in 2022. Over the period under review, imports saw a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 47%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.
In value terms, water-skis and surfboards imports contracted to $X in 2022. Overall, imports continue to indicate buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 107% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then reduced in the following year.
Imports by Country
Russia (X units), Poland (X units) and the Czech Republic (X units) represented roughly 66% of total imports in 2022. Hungary (X units) held an 8.3% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Slovakia (5.3%) and Belarus (5%). Romania (X units) took a minor share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Belarus (with a CAGR of +31.4%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest water-skis and surfboards importing markets in Eastern Europe were Poland ($X), the Czech Republic ($X) and Russia ($X), with a combined 67% share of total imports. Hungary, Slovakia, Romania and Belarus lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 19%.
In terms of the main importing countries, Hungary, with a CAGR of +25.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per unit, which is down by -5.2% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.1%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 41%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit, and then contracted in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per unit), while Belarus ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Romania (+4.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
