Winche And Capstan Market Size in Eastern Europe

In 2021, after two years of decline, there was growth in the East European winche and capstan market, when its value increased by 0.1% to $X. The total consumption indicated a tangible expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, consumption decreased by -18.2% against 2018 indices. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, winche and capstan production shrank markedly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. The total production indicated a noticeable increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, production increased by +16.1% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 54% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2020, and then reduced dramatically in the following year.

Exports in Eastern Europe

For the sixth consecutive year, Eastern Europe recorded growth in overseas shipments of winches and capstans, which increased by 113% to X units in 2021. Overall, exports continue to indicate a significant increase. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, winche and capstan exports rose rapidly to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, showed a mild slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 26%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Hungary was the major exporter of winches and capstans in Eastern Europe, with the volume of exports finishing at X units, which was near 68% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Poland (X units) and Slovakia (X units), together creating a 22% share of total exports. The following exporters - Belarus (X units), the Czech Republic (X units) and Romania (X units) - each amounted to a 6.2% share of total exports.

Hungary was also the fastest-growing in terms of the winches and capstans exports, with a CAGR of +49.8% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Slovakia (+30.3%), Romania (+27.6%), Poland (+19.1%) and Belarus (+17.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, the Czech Republic (-3.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Hungary (+52 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Belarus, Poland and the Czech Republic saw its share reduced by -2.6%, -13.6% and -20.3% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Poland ($X) remains the largest winche and capstan supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 43% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Romania ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by Hungary, with a 6.8% share.

In Poland, winche and capstan exports contracted by an average annual rate of -1.2% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Romania (+22.1% per year) and Hungary (+22.6% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per unit in 2021, reducing by -46.4% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a precipitous setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 19% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Romania ($X per unit), while Hungary ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Romania (-4.3%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Eastern Europe

In 2021, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas purchases of winches and capstans, when their volume increased by 15% to X units. Overall, imports posted a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 62% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, winche and capstan imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated temperate growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +72.2% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 71%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

In 2021, Russia (X units), Poland (X units) and Hungary (X units) represented the main importer of winches and capstans in Eastern Europe, creating 79% of total import. Slovakia (X units), the Czech Republic (X units), Ukraine (X units), Romania (X units) and Belarus (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Hungary (with a CAGR of +32.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported winches and capstans in Eastern Europe, comprising 50% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Poland ($X), with a 20% share of total imports. It was followed by the Czech Republic, with a 6.4% share.

In Russia, winche and capstan imports expanded at an average annual rate of +2.1% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Poland (+12.0% per year) and the Czech Republic (+7.1% per year).
