Exports by Country

Poland was the largest exporter of women's or girls' clothing (knitted or crocheted) in Eastern Europe, with the volume of exports reaching X units, which was approx. 53% of total exports in 2022. Slovakia (X units) held a 15% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by the Czech Republic (10%), Bulgaria (6.2%) and Russia (4.6%). Exports from Poland increased at an average annual rate of +12.1% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Russia (+23.4%), the Czech Republic (+20.8%), Slovakia (+20.3%) and Hungary (+18.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Russia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +23.4% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Bulgaria (-2.0%) and Romania (-5.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Poland, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Russia and Hungary increased by +14, +9.7, +6.6, +3.3 and +1.6 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, Poland ($X) remains the largest women knitwear supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 56% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the Czech Republic ($X), with an 11% share of total exports. It was followed by Slovakia, with a 6.7% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Poland amounted to +15.5%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the Czech Republic (+23.8% per year) and Slovakia (+10.8% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per unit in 2022, reducing by -7.9% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the export price increased by 11% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2021, and then declined in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Romania ($X per unit), while Slovakia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

In 2022, approx. X units of women's or girls' clothing (knitted or crocheted) were imported in Eastern Europe; increasing by 8.6% on the year before. Overall, imports posted buoyant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 29% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, women knitwear imports rose remarkably to $X in 2022. In general, imports showed buoyant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 35%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Poland represented the key importing country with an import of around X units, which finished at 41% of total imports. Russia (X units) took a 16% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by the Czech Republic (11%), Romania (8.1%), Hungary (7.9%) and Slovakia (7%). Poland (+23 p.p.), Hungary (+5.2 p.p.), the Czech Republic (+3.1 p.p.), Romania (+2.5 p.p.) and Slovakia (+2.3 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Russia saw its share reduced by -34.9% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Poland ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported women's or girls' clothing (knitted or crocheted) in Eastern Europe, comprising 43% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Russia ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by the Czech Republic, with a 12% share.

In Poland, women knitwear imports increased at an average annual rate of +18.2% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Russia (-6.5% per year) and the Czech Republic (+15.4% per year).
