Total exports indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports decreased by -9.7% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 15% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X cubic meters. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of the exports of remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, exports of wood chips, parts, residues, pellets and other agglomerates expanded remarkably to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +57.8% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 28% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

In 2021, Russia (X cubic meters) and Latvia (X cubic meters) represented the key exporters of wood chips, parts, residues, pellets and other agglomerates in Eastern Europe, together finishing at approx. 51% of total exports. Belarus (X cubic meters) held a 13% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Estonia (12%) and the Czech Republic (5.3%). The following exporters - Ukraine (X cubic meters) and Poland (X cubic meters) - each accounted for an 8.6% share of total exports.

Over the period under review, imports saw strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 38% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports of hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, imports of wood chips, parts, residues, pellets and other agglomerates rose remarkably to $X in 2021. In general, imports continue to indicate a remarkable increase. Romania, with a CAGR of +44.8%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the import price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per thousand cubic meters, leveling off at the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a pronounced slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the import price increased by 14%. The level of import peaked at $X per thousand cubic meters in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Hungary ($X per thousand cubic meters), while the Czech Republic ($X per thousand cubic meters) was amongst the lowest.
