The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 39% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X units in 2021, and then fell remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, wooden bedroom furniture exports contracted slightly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 25% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then dropped modestly in the following year.

Poland was the major exporting country with an export of about X units, which resulted at 55% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Lithuania (X units) and the Czech Republic (X units), together making up a 22% share of total exports. The following exporters - Romania (X units), Slovakia (X units), Russia (X units), Estonia (X units), Hungary (X units), Belarus (X units) and Ukraine (X units) - together made up 21% of total exports.

Exports from Poland increased at an average annual rate of +9.9% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Lithuania (+13.4%), Russia (+13.0%), Hungary (+9.7%), the Czech Republic (+8.8%) and Slovakia (+7.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Lithuania emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +13.4% from 2012-2022. Belarus, Estonia, Romania and Ukraine experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. While the share of Poland (+7.4 p.p.) and Lithuania (+5.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Ukraine (-2.4 p.p.), Belarus (-2.6 p.p.), Estonia (-3 p.p.) and Romania (-4.6 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Poland ($X) remains the largest wooden bedroom furniture supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 54% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Lithuania ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by the Czech Republic, with a 6.5% share.

In Poland, wooden bedroom furniture exports expanded at an average annual rate of +11.2% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Lithuania (+14.7% per year) and the Czech Republic (+10.1% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per unit in 2022, rising by 28% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.1%. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in Belarus ($X per unit) and Romania ($X per unit), while Russia ($X per unit) and the Czech Republic ($X per unit) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belarus (+4.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Eastern Europe

In 2022, overseas purchases of wooden furniture of a kind used in the bedroom decreased by -30.3% to X units for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. In general, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 58%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X units in 2021, and then declined notably in the following year.

In value terms, wooden bedroom furniture imports shrank to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, recorded a perceptible increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 37% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, leveling off in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Russia (X units), Slovakia (X units), Poland (X units), Romania (X units) and the Czech Republic (X units) represented the key importer of wooden furniture of a kind used in the bedroom in Eastern Europe, achieving 81% of total import. Hungary (X units) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 5.5% share, followed by Bulgaria (5.3%).

The import price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per unit in 2022, rising by 43% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.6%. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per unit), while Russia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
