Woven Carpet Market Size in Eastern Europe

After two years of growth, the East European woven carpet market decreased by -3.6% to $X in 2022. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. In value terms, woven carpet production skyrocketed to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. The total output value increased at an average annual rate of +1.0% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the production volume increased by 22% against the previous year. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X. From 2021 to 2022, production growth remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, after six years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of woven carpets and other woven textile coverings, when their volume decreased by -15.6% to X square meters. In general, exports, however, enjoyed a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 52% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X square meters, and then fell rapidly in the following year.

In value terms, woven carpet exports dropped to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed prominent growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 74%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then reduced in the following year.

Exports by Country

In 2022, Poland (X square meters), Bulgaria (X square meters), Belarus (X square meters) and Ukraine (X square meters) was the major exporter of woven carpets and other woven textile coverings in Eastern Europe, creating 79% of total export. Moldova (X square meters) ranks next in terms of the total exports with a 5.3% share, followed by the Czech Republic (4.7%). Russia (X square meters) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Bulgaria (with a CAGR of +34.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Poland ($X) remains the largest woven carpet supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 44% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Bulgaria ($X), with a 16% share of total exports. It was followed by Belarus, with a 12% share.

In Poland, woven carpet exports increased at an average annual rate of +8.8% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Bulgaria (+40.6% per year) and Belarus (+4.5% per year).

The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per square meter in 2022, increasing by 2.4% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the export price increased by 15%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per square meter in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per square meter), while the Czech Republic ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.

After two years of growth, overseas purchases of woven carpets and other woven textile coverings decreased by -14% to X square meters in 2022. Total imports indicated a temperate expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +30.6% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 26% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X square meters, and then fell in the following year.

In value terms, woven carpet imports shrank to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a noticeable expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +50.5% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 38% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then reduced in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Poland (X square meters), distantly followed by Russia (X square meters), Romania (X square meters), Bulgaria (X square meters) and the Czech Republic (X square meters) represented the main importers of woven carpets and other woven textile coverings, together achieving 84% of total imports. The following importers - Belarus (X square meters) and Hungary (X square meters) - each recorded an 8.2% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Bulgaria (with a CAGR of +23.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest woven carpet importing markets in Eastern Europe were Poland ($X), Russia ($X) and Romania ($X), together comprising 65% of total imports. Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Belarus lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 25%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Bulgaria, with a CAGR of +22.9%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per square meter, standing approx. at the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the import price increased by 9.2% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per square meter in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Hungary ($X per square meter) and the Czech Republic ($X per square meter), while Russia ($X per square meter) and Romania ($X per square meter) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Romania (+3.6%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
