In 2021, overseas shipments of wrist-watches, pocket-watches, stop-watches and other watches; with case of precious metal or of metal clad with precious metals increased by 12% to X units, rising for the fourth consecutive year after two years of decline. Overall, exports posted significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 1,916% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, exports of wrist-watches, pocket-watches, stop-watches and other watches; with case of precious metal or of metal clad with precious metals reached $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +11.9% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +27.0% against 2014 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 66% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
Exports by Country
Poland represented the major exporter of wrist-watches, pocket-watches, stop-watches and other watches; with case of precious metal or of metal clad with precious metals in Eastern Europe, with the volume of exports accounting for X units, which was near 72% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Hungary (X units), achieving a 13% share of total exports. The following exporters - Latvia (X units), the Czech Republic (X units), Romania (X units), Lithuania (X units) and Slovakia (X units) - together made up 13% of total exports.
Poland was also the fastest-growing in terms of the wrist-watches, pocket-watches, stop-watches and other watches; with case of precious metal or of metal clad with precious metals exports, with a CAGR of +126.3% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Hungary (+93.7%), Latvia (+70.8%), Lithuania (+67.5%), the Czech Republic (+44.4%), Slovakia (+38.7%) and Romania (+31.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. While the share of Poland (+65 p.p.) and Hungary (+7.7 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Slovakia (-11.7 p.p.), the Czech Republic (-13.9 p.p.) and Romania (-25.9 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the Czech Republic ($X) remains the largest wrist-watches, pocket-watches, stop-watches and other watches; with case of precious metal or of metal clad with precious metal supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 40% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Slovakia ($X), with a 19% share of total exports. It was followed by Lithuania, with a 7.6% share.
In the Czech Republic, exports of wrist-watches, pocket-watches, stop-watches and other watches; with case of precious metal or of metal clad with precious metals increased at an average annual rate of +17.0% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Slovakia (+23.1% per year) and Lithuania (+10.3% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per unit, leveling off at the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a dramatic contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 an increase of 126% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per unit), while Poland ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Slovakia (-11.3%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Eastern Europe
In 2021, supplies from abroad of wrist-watches, pocket-watches, stop-watches and other watches; with case of precious metal or of metal clad with precious metals increased by 17% to X units, rising for the fourth year in a row after two years of decline. In general, imports showed a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 1,399%. Over the period under review, imports of hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, imports of wrist-watches, pocket-watches, stop-watches and other watches; with case of precious metal or of metal clad with precious metals surged to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.8% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +88.2% against 2017 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Poland (X units) was the key importer of wrist-watches, pocket-watches, stop-watches and other watches; with case of precious metal or of metal clad with precious metals, comprising 60% of total imports. Hungary (X units) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 16% share, followed by Slovakia (9.8%). Lithuania (X units), Estonia (X units), the Czech Republic (X units) and Romania (X units) held a minor share of total imports.
Imports into Poland increased at an average annual rate of +33.3% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Estonia (+80.4%), Lithuania (+74.3%), Slovakia (+48.5%), Hungary (+40.4%), the Czech Republic (+28.7%) and Romania (+22.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Estonia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +80.4% from 2012-2021. While the share of Slovakia (+5.9 p.p.), Hungary (+5.4 p.p.), Lithuania (+3.3 p.p.) and Estonia (+2.7 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Romania (-2.4 p.p.) and Poland (-3.4 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the Czech Republic ($X), Poland ($X) and Slovakia ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 38% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Romania, Hungary, Lithuania and Estonia, which together accounted for a further 19%.
Romania, with a CAGR of +16.0%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per unit in 2021, picking up by 26% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a dramatic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 172% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2014 to 2021, the import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per unit), while Poland ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
