The East European woolen yarn market was finally on the rise to reach $X in 2021, after two years of decline. Overall, consumption, however, continues to indicate a abrupt slump. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, woolen yarn production reduced sharply to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, showed a mild descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the production volume increased by 23% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, production remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, overseas shipments of yarn of wool increased by 18% to X tons for the first time since 2016, thus ending a four-year declining trend. Overall, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, woolen yarn exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when exports increased by 21% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Lithuania was the major exporting country with an export of around X tons, which resulted at 34% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Romania (X tons), Bulgaria (X tons), Poland (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons) and Estonia (X tons), together creating a 61% share of total exports. Hungary (X tons) took a minor share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Lithuania (with a CAGR of +7.8%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Romania ($X), the Czech Republic ($X) and Lithuania ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 63% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Poland, Bulgaria, Estonia and Hungary, which together accounted for a further 36%.
In terms of the main exporting countries, Estonia, with a CAGR of +11.8%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, which is down by -1.8% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 14% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Romania ($X per ton), while Hungary ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Estonia (+7.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, overseas purchases of yarn of wool were finally on the rise to reach X tons after two years of decline. Overall, imports, however, recorded a mild slump. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 32%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
The purchases of the five major importers of yarn of wool, namely Lithuania, Estonia, Romania, the Czech Republic and Poland, represented more than two-thirds of total import. It was distantly followed by Russia (X tons) and Bulgaria (X tons), together mixing up a 12% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Estonia (with a CAGR of +28.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.
In value terms, the largest woolen yarn importing markets in Eastern Europe were Romania ($X), Lithuania ($X) and the Czech Republic ($X), with a combined 60% share of total imports. Poland, Bulgaria, Russia and Estonia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 29%.
Estonia, with a CAGR of +9.7%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The import price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 6% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when the import price increased by 26%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
