Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a sharp setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 588% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, aircraft launching gear exports reduced sharply to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, showed a dramatic slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 76% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Ghana dominates exports structure, amounting to X kg, which was near 91% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Nigeria (X kg), making up a 9.3% share of total exports.

Ghana was also the fastest-growing in terms of the aircraft launching gear, deck-arrestor or similar gear and parts thereof exports, with a CAGR of +4.7% from 2012 to 2021. Nigeria (-21.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Ghana and Nigeria increased by +86 and +3 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Nigeria ($X) and Ghana ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Nigeria, with a CAGR of -21.4%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review.

The export price in ECOWAS stood at $X per ton in 2021, which is down by -76.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a abrupt shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 289%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Nigeria ($X per ton), while Ghana stood at $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Nigeria (-0.1%).

Imports in ECOWAS

In 2021, approx. X tons of aircraft launching gear, deck-arrestor or similar gear and parts thereof were imported in ECOWAS; with an increase of 95% compared with the previous year's figure. In general, imports showed resilient growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 21,764% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, aircraft launching gear imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports showed a resilient expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when imports increased by 20,706%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Nigeria (X tons) was the key importer of aircraft launching gear, deck-arrestor or similar gear and parts thereof, committing 66% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Ghana (X tons), generating a 24% share of total imports. Mali (X kg) and Cote d'Ivoire (X kg) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Imports into Nigeria increased at an average annual rate of +28.9% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Cote d'Ivoire (+77.3%), Ghana (+42.0%) and Mali (+13.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Nigeria, Ghana and Cote d'Ivoire increased by +48, +21 and +3.1 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest aircraft launching gear importing markets in ECOWAS were Nigeria ($X), Ghana ($X) and Cote d'Ivoire ($X), with a combined 92% share of total imports.

Among the main importing countries, Cote d'Ivoire, with a CAGR of +70.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in ECOWAS stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 6.6% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a pronounced decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the import price increased by 99%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Cote d'Ivoire ($X per ton), while Nigeria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Nigeria (+17.6%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
