In 2021, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in the ECOWAS aluminium pipe fittings market, when its value increased by 6.5% to $X. The total consumption indicated a temperate increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the market failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, aluminium pipe fittings production totaled $X in 2021 estimated in export price. The total production indicated a noticeable expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.8% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, production decreased by -9.4% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 25% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, production remained at a lower figure.

Exports in ECOWAS

In 2021, shipments abroad of aluminium tube or pipe fittings decreased by -82.6% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year rising trend. In general, exports, however, enjoyed tangible growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 586% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, aluminium pipe fittings exports fell rapidly to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 74%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Cote d'Ivoire represented the key exporter of aluminium tube or pipe fittings in ECOWAS, with the volume of exports amounting to X kg, which was approx. 42% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Ghana (X kg), Niger (X kg), Mali (X kg), Sierra Leone (X kg) and Senegal (X kg), together comprising a 56% share of total exports. Nigeria (X kg) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Niger (with a CAGR of +6.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Niger ($X) emerged as the largest aluminium pipe fittings supplier in ECOWAS, comprising 52% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Cote d'Ivoire ($X), with a 17% share of total exports. It was followed by Mali, with a 13% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Niger stood at +3.2%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Cote d'Ivoire (+7.7% per year) and Mali (+7.4% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in ECOWAS amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 304% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the export price increased by 1,087% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Niger ($X per ton), while Senegal ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Sierra Leone (+131.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Aluminium Pipe Fittings Imports

Imports in ECOWAS

After three years of decline, overseas purchases of aluminium tube or pipe fittings increased by 124% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate pronounced growth. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, aluminium pipe fittings imports surged to $X in 2021. In general, imports posted a strong increase. The level of import peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Nigeria was the key importing country with an import of about X tons, which recorded 58% of total imports. Ghana (X tons) took a 15% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Cote d'Ivoire (13%) and Guinea (5.8%). Senegal (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Imports into Nigeria increased at an average annual rate of +6.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Cote d'Ivoire (+12.1%), Guinea (+8.2%), Ghana (+2.8%) and Senegal (+1.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Cote d'Ivoire emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in ECOWAS, with a CAGR of +12.1% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Nigeria, Cote d'Ivoire and Guinea increased by +14, +6.8 and +2.1 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Nigeria ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported aluminium tube or pipe fittings in ECOWAS, comprising 47% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Ghana ($X), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by Cote d'Ivoire, with a 15% share.

In Nigeria, aluminium pipe fittings imports expanded at an average annual rate of +9.1% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Ghana (+1.3% per year) and Cote d'Ivoire (+13.6% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in ECOWAS amounted to $X per ton, surging by 4.1% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.3%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 61%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Guinea ($X per ton), while Nigeria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
