The ECOWAS blood-grouping reagents market shrank to $X in 2022, with a decrease of -8.4% against the previous year. In general, consumption, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 134%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X kg, and then contracted dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, blood-grouping reagents exports declined to $X in 2022. Overall, exports showed a abrupt downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by 97% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Nigeria represented the key exporter of blood-grouping reagents in ECOWAS, with the volume of exports amounting to X kg, which was near 82% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Niger (X kg), committing a 12% share of total exports. Benin (X kg) took a little share of total exports.

Nigeria was also the fastest-growing in terms of the blood-grouping reagents exports, with a CAGR of +13.1% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Benin (+2.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. In 2022, the export price in ECOWAS amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 169% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a abrupt setback. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Benin ($X per ton), while Nigeria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Benin (-1.6%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in ECOWAS

In 2022, imports of blood-grouping reagents in ECOWAS declined modestly to X tons, which is down by -2.3% on the previous year's figure. Total imports indicated a notable expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +16.8% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 61%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, blood-grouping reagents imports dropped to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -12.7% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 43% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Senegal (X tons) and Burkina Faso (X tons) were the largest importers of blood-grouping reagents in 2022, amounting to approx. 28% and 25% of total imports, respectively. It was distantly followed by Cote d'Ivoire (X tons), Benin (X tons), Guinea (X tons), Nigeria (X tons) and Mali (X tons), together achieving a 35% share of total imports. Niger (X kg) took a minor share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Mali (with a CAGR of +23.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest blood-grouping reagents importing markets in ECOWAS were Senegal ($X), Burkina Faso ($X) and Cote d'Ivoire ($X), with a combined 62% share of total imports. Guinea, Benin, Nigeria, Mali and Niger lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 30%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Guinea, with a CAGR of +22.2%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in ECOWAS amounted to $X per ton, declining by -5.9% against the previous year. Import price indicated a pronounced increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 an increase of 84% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Nigeria ($X per ton), while Niger ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Burkina Faso (+15.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
