Blueberry And Cranberry Market Size in ECOWAS

The ECOWAS blueberry and cranberry market stood at $X in 2022, leveling off at the previous year. The total consumption indicated pronounced growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, consumption decreased by -2.2% against 2020 indices. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Blueberry And Cranberry Production in ECOWAS

In value terms, blueberry and cranberry production reached $X in 2022 estimated in export price. The total output value increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when the production volume increased by 11%. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The countries with the highest volumes of production in 2022 were Nigeria (X tons), Ghana (X tons) and Guinea-Bissau (X tons), with a combined 96% share of total production. Benin lagged somewhat behind, accounting for a further 3%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Benin (with a CAGR of +2.2%), while production for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Blueberry And Cranberry Exports

Exports in ECOWAS

In 2022, shipments abroad of blueberries and cranberries decreased by -19.5% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. In general, exports, however, recorded buoyant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 2,227% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, blueberry and cranberry exports shrank markedly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 4,789%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Ghana prevails in exports structure, resulting at X tons, which was near 95% of total exports in 2022. The following exporters - Nigeria (X kg) and Cote d'Ivoire (X kg) - each amounted to a 3.9% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to blueberry and cranberry exports from Ghana stood at -2.6%. At the same time, Cote d'Ivoire (+20.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Cote d'Ivoire emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in ECOWAS, with a CAGR of +20.5% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Nigeria (-18.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Ghana (+95 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Nigeria (-30.3 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Ghana ($X) remains the largest blueberry and cranberry supplier in ECOWAS, comprising 96% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Cote d'Ivoire ($X), with a 2.1% share of total exports.

In Ghana, blueberry and cranberry exports increased at an average annual rate of +9.8% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Cote d'Ivoire (+24.1% per year) and Nigeria (-28.4% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in ECOWAS stood at $X per ton in 2022, declining by -5.8% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 149%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then fell in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Cote d'Ivoire ($X per ton), while Nigeria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ghana (+12.8%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Blueberry And Cranberry Imports

Imports in ECOWAS

In 2022, approx. X tons of blueberries and cranberries were imported in ECOWAS; falling by -24.9% compared with the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 150% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, blueberry and cranberry imports reduced markedly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, recorded a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 165%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2021, and then plummeted in the following year.

Imports by Country

Nigeria dominates imports structure, amounting to X tons, which was approx. 91% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Ghana (X tons), generating a 5.8% share of total imports.

Nigeria was also the fastest-growing in terms of the blueberries and cranberries imports, with a CAGR of +78.3% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Ghana (+2.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Nigeria increased by +87 percentage points.

In value terms, Nigeria ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported blueberries and cranberries in ECOWAS, comprising 95% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Ghana ($X), with a 2.9% share of total imports.

In Nigeria, blueberry and cranberry imports expanded at an average annual rate of +82.7% over the period from 2012-2022.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in ECOWAS stood at $X per ton in 2022, with an increase of 4.7% against the previous year. Overall, the import price posted a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the import price increased by 95%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2021 to 2022, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Nigeria ($X per ton), while Ghana stood at $X per ton.
