The ECOWAS market for bromides and bromide oxides, iodides and iodide oxides contracted to $X in 2021, which is down by -7.7% against the previous year. In 2021, bromides, iodides and oxids thereof exports in ECOWAS soared to X tons, jumping by 138% compared with the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a precipitous slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by 500%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, bromides, iodides and oxids thereof exports surged to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, faced a dramatic setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 656%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Senegal prevails in exports structure, resulting at X tons, which was near 93% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Nigeria (X tons), comprising a 7.5% share of total exports.
Senegal was also the fastest-growing in terms of the bromides and bromide oxides, iodides and iodide oxides exports, with a CAGR of +80.6% from 2012 to 2021. Nigeria (-45.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Senegal (+93 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Nigeria saw its share reduced by -92.5% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.
In value terms, Senegal ($X) remains the largest bromides, iodides and oxids thereof supplier in ECOWAS, comprising 96% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Nigeria ($X), with a 4.2% share of total exports.
In Senegal, bromides, iodides and oxids thereof exports increased at an average annual rate of +86.3% over the period from 2012-2021.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in ECOWAS stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 1.9% against the previous year. In general, the export price enjoyed a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the export price increased by 164%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Senegal ($X per ton), while Nigeria totaled $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Senegal (+3.2%).
Imports of Bromides And Bromide Oxides, Iodides And Iodide Oxides
Imports in ECOWAS
After five years of growth, supplies from abroad of bromides and bromide oxides, iodides and iodide oxides decreased by -30.9% to X tons in 2021. In general, imports, however, posted a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 198% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then reduced remarkably in the following year.
In value terms, bromides, iodides and oxids thereof imports plummeted to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 147%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then fell remarkably in the following year.
Imports by Country
Ghana represented the largest importer of bromides and bromide oxides, iodides and iodide oxides in ECOWAS, with the volume of imports accounting for X tons, which was approx. 80% of total imports in 2021. Nigeria (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Senegal (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 20% share of total imports.
Imports into Ghana increased at an average annual rate of +67.8% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Senegal (+94.2%) and Nigeria (+6.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Senegal emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in ECOWAS, with a CAGR of +94.2% from 2012-2021. While the share of Ghana (+71 p.p.) and Senegal (+6.8 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Nigeria (-71.2 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, Ghana ($X), Nigeria ($X) and Senegal ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 98% share of total imports.
In terms of the main importing countries, Senegal, with a CAGR of +64.6%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in ECOWAS amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -40.1% against the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a abrupt descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 an increase of 43% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2021, the import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Senegal ($X per ton), while Ghana ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Nigeria (-8.0%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
