Exports in ECOWAS
In 2021, exports of ceramic household articles and toilet articles in ECOWAS soared to X tons, rising by 59% on 2020 figures. In general, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, ceramic household article exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, exports saw a modest expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 75% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
In 2021, Ghana (X tons) and Nigeria (X tons) represented the key exporters of ceramic household articles and toilet articles in ECOWAS, together finishing at approx. 61% of total exports. Cote d'Ivoire (X tons) took the next position in the ranking, followed by Mali (X tons) and Cabo Verde (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 26% share of total exports. Senegal (X tons) and Togo (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Mali (with a CAGR of +36.6%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Nigeria ($X) remains the largest ceramic household article supplier in ECOWAS, comprising 44% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Ghana ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by Cabo Verde, with an 8.8% share.
In Nigeria, ceramic household article exports increased at an average annual rate of +26.6% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Ghana (-11.0% per year) and Cabo Verde (+7.6% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in ECOWAS stood at $X per ton in 2021, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the export price increased by 110%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2016 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Togo ($X per ton), while Mali ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Togo (+16.9%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.
Ceramic Household Article Imports
Imports in ECOWAS
In 2021, overseas purchases of ceramic household articles and toilet articles decreased by -10.4% to X tons for the first time since 2016, thus ending a four-year rising trend. In general, imports saw a deep contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 53%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, ceramic household article imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a buoyant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 68% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Nigeria (X tons), Ghana (X tons) and Senegal (X tons) represented the main importer of ceramic household articles and toilet articles in ECOWAS, committing 71% of total import. It was distantly followed by Sierra Leone (X tons), generating a 12% share of total imports. Cote d'Ivoire (X tons), Benin (X tons) and Guinea (X tons) took a little share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Sierra Leone (with a CAGR of +31.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest ceramic household article importing markets in ECOWAS were Senegal ($X), Ghana ($X) and Sierra Leone ($X), together comprising 69% of total imports.
In terms of the main importing countries, Sierra Leone, with a CAGR of +37.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in ECOWAS stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 35% against the previous year. In general, the import price enjoyed a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 75% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Guinea ($X per ton), while Nigeria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
