Over the period under review, exports, however, saw strong growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 104% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the exports of remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, exports of ceramic pipes, conduits, guttering and pipe fittings soared to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, saw a noticeable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 85%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Ghana represented the largest exporter of ceramic pipes, conduits, guttering and pipe fittings in ECOWAS, with the volume of exports recording X tons, which was near 67% of total exports in 2021. Togo (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Nigeria (X tons). All these countries together took near 31% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to ceramic pipe, conduit, guttering and pipe fitting exports from Ghana stood at +5.8%. At the same time, Togo (+12.7%) and Nigeria (+7.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Togo emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in ECOWAS, with a CAGR of +12.7% from 2012-2021. Togo (+9.1 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Ghana saw its share reduced by -5.3% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Ghana ($X) remains the largest ceramic pipe, conduit, guttering and pipe fitting supplier in ECOWAS, comprising 55% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Togo ($X), with a 17% share of total exports.

In Ghana, exports of ceramic pipes, conduits, guttering and pipe fittings decreased by an average annual rate of -1.2% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Togo (+26.6% per year) and Nigeria (+30.6% per year).

The export price in ECOWAS stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 66% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a perceptible slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when the export price increased by 130%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Nigeria ($X per ton), while Togo ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Nigeria (+22.0%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in ECOWAS

For the third year in a row, ECOWAS recorded growth in purchases abroad of ceramic pipes, conduits, guttering and pipe fittings, which increased by 48% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, imports enjoyed significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 210%. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, imports of ceramic pipes, conduits, guttering and pipe fittings soared to $X in 2021. In general, imports saw a resilient expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 258% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.

Imports by Country

Ghana (X tons) and Nigeria (X tons) dominates fittings structure, together creating 87% of total imports. Benin (X tons), Sierra Leone (X tons) and Cote d'Ivoire (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Ghana (with a CAGR of +66.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Ghana ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported ceramic pipes, conduits, guttering and pipe fittings in ECOWAS, comprising 68% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Nigeria ($X), with a 23% share of total imports. It was followed by Benin, with a 3.6% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Ghana amounted to +20.8%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Nigeria (+11.1% per year) and Benin (+61.9% per year).
