Ghana was also the fastest-growing in terms of the dissolving grade wood pulp exports, with a CAGR of +37.2% from 2012 to 2021. Ghana (+99 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In Ghana, dissolving grade wood pulp exports expanded at an average annual rate of +54.3% over the period from 2012-2021.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in ECOWAS amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 399% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a buoyant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the export price increased by 399%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Ghana.

Imports in ECOWAS
Dissolving grade wood pulp imports soared to X tons in 2021, with an increase of 60% against 2020 figures. Total imports indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.9% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, dissolving grade wood pulp imports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a prominent expansion. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
Nigeria represented the major importing country with an import of around X tons, which recorded 61% of total imports. Cote d'Ivoire (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 32% share, followed by Mali (4.7%).
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Nigeria (with a CAGR of +48.0%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.
In value terms, Nigeria ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported dissolving grade wood pulp in ECOWAS, comprising 81% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Cote d'Ivoire ($X), with a 14% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Nigeria amounted to +48.6%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Cote d'Ivoire (-2.1% per year) and Mali (+25.0% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in ECOWAS stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 29% against the previous year. Import price indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +9.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, dissolving grade wood pulp import price increased by +61.3% against 2019 indices. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Nigeria ($X per ton), while Cote d'Ivoire ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
