Exports in ECOWAS
In 2022, shipments abroad of cherries and sour cherries decreased by -81.7% to X kg, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Overall, exports recorded a abrupt contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 16,136%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, cherry and sour cherry exports fell sharply to $X in 2022. In general, exports continue to indicate a abrupt slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 6,171% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Cote d'Ivoire was the key exporting country with an export of around X kg, which accounted for 84% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Nigeria (X kg), achieving a 12% share of total exports. Senegal (X kg) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to cherry and sour cherry exports from Cote d'Ivoire stood at -17.0%. At the same time, Nigeria (+16.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Nigeria emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in ECOWAS, with a CAGR of +16.5% from 2012-2022. Among the main exporting countries, Nigeria, with a CAGR of +58.1%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in ECOWAS stood at $X per ton in 2022, surging by 44% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a buoyant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 an increase of 557%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Nigeria ($X per ton), while Cote d'Ivoire ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in ECOWAS
In 2022, approx. X tons of cherries and sour cherries were imported in ECOWAS; jumping by 36% compared with the year before. In general, imports recorded buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 137%. The volume of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
In value terms, cherry and sour cherry imports soared to $X in 2022. Overall, imports posted a buoyant expansion. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
Senegal (X tons) and Cabo Verde (X tons) dominates imports structure, together making up 87% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Ghana (X tons), achieving an 8.1% share of total imports. Mali (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Cabo Verde (with a CAGR of +44.2%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest cherry and sour cherry importing markets in ECOWAS were Cabo Verde ($X), Senegal ($X) and Ghana ($X), with a combined 93% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Mali, which accounted for a further 1.8%.
Mali, with a CAGR of +76.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in ECOWAS amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 28% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a mild decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 36% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Ghana ($X per ton), while Senegal ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
