In value terms, decaffeinated or roasted coffee exports surged to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, saw a deep reduction. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Burkina Faso (X tons) and Guinea (X tons) represented roughly X% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Ghana (X tons), Sierra Leone (X tons), Senegal (X tons) and Togo (X tons), together comprising a X% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Burkina Faso (with a CAGR of X%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.
In value terms, the largest decaffeinated or roasted coffee supplying countries in ECOWAS were Guinea ($X), Burkina Faso ($X) and Senegal ($X), with a combined X% share of total exports.

Imports in ECOWAS
After two years of growth, supplies from abroad of coffee (decaffeinated or roasted) decreased by X% to X tons in 2022. In general, imports, however, posted a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2021, and then shrank sharply in the following year.
In value terms, decaffeinated or roasted coffee imports contracted significantly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, recorded buoyant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by X%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then shrank notably in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Burkina Faso (X tons) was the largest importer of coffee (decaffeinated or roasted), making up X% of total imports. Senegal (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Cote d'Ivoire (X tons), Ghana (X tons) and Nigeria (X tons). All these countries together held approx. X% share of total imports. Mali (X tons) and Cabo Verde (X tons) held a relatively small share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to decaffeinated or roasted coffee imports into Burkina Faso stood at X%. At the same time, Ghana (X%), Mali (X%), Senegal (X%), Nigeria (X%) and Cote d'Ivoire (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Ghana emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in ECOWAS, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Cabo Verde (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Ghana (X p.p.), Senegal (X p.p.), Burkina Faso (X p.p.), Mali (X p.p.) and Nigeria (X p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Cabo Verde saw its share reduced by X% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
