In value terms, reel cutting slitter exports rose rapidly to $X in 2022. In general, exports continue to indicate a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 39%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Nigeria (X units) and Cote d'Ivoire (X units) represented the key exporters of combined reel slitting and re-reeling cutting machines for paper and paperboard in 2022, reaching near 33% and 25% of total exports, respectively. Ghana (X units) took the next position in the ranking, followed by Senegal (X units) and Togo (X units). All these countries together held near 42% share of total exports.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Togo, with a CAGR of -1.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.

The export price in ECOWAS stood at $X per unit in 2022, rising by 29% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a deep setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 68%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Senegal ($X per unit), while Togo ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

The volume of import peaked at X units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, reel cutting slitter imports declined to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a strong expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 190% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

The purchases of the one major importers of combined reel slitting and re-reeling cutting machines for paper and paperboard, namely Nigeria, represented more than two-thirds of total import.
