From 2020 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, concentrated grapefruit juice exports contracted remarkably to $X in 2021. Overall, exports continue to indicate a deep setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 251%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Nigeria was the major exporter of concentrated grapefruit juice in ECOWAS, with the volume of exports accounting for X tons, which was approx. 56% of total exports in 2021. Benin (X kg) held a 29% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Senegal (5.9%) and Togo (5.4%). Ghana (X kg) took a relatively small share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Nigeria (with a CAGR of +19.0%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.

In value terms, Nigeria ($X) remains the largest concentrated grapefruit juice supplier in ECOWAS, comprising 64% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Benin ($X), with a 23% share of total exports. It was followed by Senegal, with a 6.8% share.

In Nigeria, concentrated grapefruit juice exports expanded at an average annual rate of +28.7% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Benin (-4.3% per year) and Senegal (-20.9% per year).

In 2021, the export price in ECOWAS amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 102% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a resilient increase. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Nigeria ($X per ton), while Togo ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Senegal (+11.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the amount of concentrated grapefruit juice imported in ECOWAS shrank modestly to X tons, which is down by -4% compared with 2020. Over the period under review, imports showed a deep contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 47% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, concentrated grapefruit juice imports expanded modestly to $X in 2021. In general, imports showed a abrupt contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 67% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Ghana prevails in imports structure, accounting for X tons, which was approx. 70% of total imports in 2021. Niger (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Liberia (X tons) and Sierra Leone (X tons). All these countries together held near 19% share of total imports. The following importers - Burkina Faso (X tons), Benin (X tons) and Senegal (X tons) - together made up 6.3% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to concentrated grapefruit juice imports into Ghana stood at +23.1%. At the same time, Liberia (+44.6%) and Sierra Leone (+26.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Liberia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in ECOWAS, with a CAGR of +44.6% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Niger (-8.7%), Benin (-13.3%), Senegal (-17.8%) and Burkina Faso (-25.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Ghana (+64 p.p.), Liberia (+6.1 p.p.) and Sierra Leone (+4.4 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Senegal (-3.2 p.p.) and Burkina Faso (-14.4 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Ghana ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported concentrated grapefruit juice in ECOWAS, comprising 54% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Liberia ($X), with a 10% share of total imports. It was followed by Niger, with an 8.7% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Ghana stood at +22.2%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Liberia (+51.0% per year) and Niger (-4.3% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in ECOWAS stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 8.2% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the import price increased by 34%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
