Concrete Pump Market Size in ECOWAS
In 2021, after three years of decline, there was significant growth in the ECOWAS concrete pump market, when its value increased by 20% to $X. Over the period under review, consumption, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the market failed to regain momentum.
Concrete Pump Production in ECOWAS
In value terms, concrete pump production dropped to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production continues to indicate a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the production volume increased by 157% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, production remained at a lower figure.
Concrete Pump Exports
Exports in ECOWAS
For the third year in a row, ECOWAS recorded growth in overseas shipments of concrete pumps, which increased by 9.1% to X units in 2021. Overall, exports, however, showed a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 108%. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, concrete pump exports contracted sharply to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated measured growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports decreased by -46.4% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by 73% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Burkina Faso was the largest exporter of concrete pumps in ECOWAS, with the volume of exports reaching X units, which was near 42% of total exports in 2021. Nigeria (X units) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Cote d'Ivoire (X units), Senegal (X units) and Togo (X units). All these countries together took approx. 50% share of total exports. The following exporters - Cabo Verde (X units) and Niger (X units) - each accounted for an 8.3% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Burkina Faso (with a CAGR of +29.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Burkina Faso ($X), Cabo Verde ($X) and Nigeria ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 42% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Cote d'Ivoire, Niger, Senegal and Togo, which together accounted for a further 26%.
Niger, with a CAGR of +162.4%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in ECOWAS amounted to $X per unit, declining by -31.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, enjoyed a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the export price increased by 555%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2015 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Cabo Verde ($X per unit), while Togo ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Burkina Faso (+18.8%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.
Concrete Pump Imports
Imports in ECOWAS
In 2021, approx. X units of concrete pumps were imported in ECOWAS; dropping by -11.6% compared with the previous year. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted perceptible growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 181% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, concrete pump imports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed a mild increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 104% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Ghana represented the largest importer of concrete pumps in ECOWAS, with the volume of imports accounting for X units, which was near 37% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Senegal (X units), Nigeria (X units), Burkina Faso (X units), Liberia (X units) and Benin (X units), together creating a 45% share of total imports. Mali (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Imports into Ghana increased at an average annual rate of +10.3% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Senegal (+38.3%), Benin (+27.5%), Liberia (+13.5%) and Burkina Faso (+6.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Senegal emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in ECOWAS, with a CAGR of +38.3% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Nigeria (-4.5%) and Mali (-7.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Ghana (+16 p.p.), Senegal (+11 p.p.), Benin (+6.7 p.p.), Liberia (+4.5 p.p.) and Burkina Faso (+1.8 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Mali (-7.4 p.p.) and Nigeria (-10.1 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, Nigeria ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported concrete pumps in ECOWAS, comprising 39% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Ghana ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by Senegal, with a 14% share.
In Nigeria, concrete pump imports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Ghana (+6.5% per year) and Senegal (+71.9% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in ECOWAS stood at $X per unit in 2021, rising by 49% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a slight reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 263%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Nigeria ($X per unit), while Liberia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
