Diode Market Size in ECOWAS
After four years of growth, the ECOWAS diode market decreased by -26.1% to $X in 2021. The total consumption indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, the market reached the maximum level at $X in 2020, and then contracted notably in the following year.

In value terms, diode production skyrocketed to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. The total production indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.1% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, production decreased by -11.7% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when the production volume increased by 37%. The level of production peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, production failed to regain momentum.

Exports in ECOWAS
In 2021, shipments abroad of diodes, other than photosensitive or light emitting diodes increased by 36% to X units, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 164%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, diode exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, exports showed a remarkable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 124% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
Niger (X units) and Senegal (X units) were the key exporters of diodes, other than photosensitive or light emitting diodes in 2021, finishing at approx. 36% and 31% of total exports, respectively. It was distantly followed by Mali (X units), Guinea (X units) and Sierra Leone (X units), together mixing up a 23% share of total exports. The following exporters - Nigeria (X units) and Cote d'Ivoire (X units) - together made up 6.6% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Sierra Leone (with a CAGR of +19.6%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest diode supplying countries in ECOWAS were Senegal ($X), Niger ($X) and Sierra Leone ($X), together accounting for 82% of total exports.
In terms of the main exporting countries, Senegal, with a CAGR of +36.9%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in ECOWAS amounted to $X per unit, with an increase of 33% against the previous year. Overall, the export price posted a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 192%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Sierra Leone ($X per unit), while Nigeria ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Senegal (+15.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in ECOWAS
In 2021, purchases abroad of diodes, other than photosensitive or light emitting diodes decreased by -95.7% to X units for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year rising trend. In general, imports, however, recorded a buoyant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 7,461% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units, and then shrank markedly in the following year.
In value terms, diode imports contracted rapidly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted a modest expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 5,768%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then fell markedly in the following year.
Imports by Country
Nigeria prevails in imports structure, resulting at X units, which was near 94% of total imports in 2021. The following importers - Ghana (X units) and Senegal (X units) - each reached a 3.8% share of total imports.
Nigeria was also the fastest-growing in terms of the diodes, other than photosensitive or light emitting diodes imports, with a CAGR of +15.6% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Ghana (+7.9%) and Senegal (+3.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Nigeria (+11 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Senegal saw its share reduced by -2.4% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Nigeria ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported diodes, other than photosensitive or light emitting diodes in ECOWAS, comprising 87% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Ghana ($X), with a 6.7% share of total imports.
In Nigeria, diode imports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Ghana (+17.7% per year) and Senegal (+6.2% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in ECOWAS stood at $X per unit in 2021, rising by 39% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a abrupt decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the import price increased by 92% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Ghana ($X per unit), while Senegal ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ghana (+9.0%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
