From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, electric hair dryer exports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a noticeable contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 126%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Senegal represented the main exporter of electric hair dryers in ECOWAS, with the volume of exports recording X units, which was near 44% of total exports in 2021. Cote d'Ivoire (X units) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 23% share, followed by Liberia (18%) and Nigeria (8.5%). The following exporters - Niger (X units), Sierra Leone (X units) and Togo (X units) - each accounted for a 5.4% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Liberia (with a CAGR of +58.7%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

In value terms, Senegal ($X) remains the largest electric hair dryer supplier in ECOWAS, comprising 69% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Liberia ($X), with a 12% share of total exports. It was followed by Cote d'Ivoire, with an 8.9% share.

In Senegal, electric hair dryer exports increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Liberia (+75.9% per year) and Cote d'Ivoire (-1.9% per year).

In 2021, the export price in ECOWAS amounted to $X per unit, surging by 76% against the previous year. In general, the export price enjoyed a prominent expansion. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Senegal ($X per unit), while Cote d'Ivoire ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Senegal (+12.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in supplies from abroad of electric hair dryers, when their volume decreased by -9.3% to X units. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 178%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units, and then fell in the following year.

In value terms, electric hair dryer imports reached $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports saw a perceptible decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 59%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Ghana was the major importer of electric hair dryers in ECOWAS, with the volume of imports reaching X units, which was approx. 74% of total imports in 2021. Cote d'Ivoire (X units) held a 12% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Nigeria (6.3%). Senegal (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to electric hair dryer imports into Ghana stood at +3.9%. At the same time, Senegal (+23.1%) and Cote d'Ivoire (+15.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Senegal emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in ECOWAS, with a CAGR of +23.1% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Nigeria (-17.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Ghana (+18 p.p.), Cote d'Ivoire (+8.9 p.p.) and Senegal (+2.5 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Nigeria saw its share reduced by -29.3% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, Ghana ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported electric hair dryers in ECOWAS, comprising 49% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Cote d'Ivoire ($X), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by Nigeria, with a 17% share.

In Ghana, electric hair dryer imports declined by an average annual rate of -4.3% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Cote d'Ivoire (+16.1% per year) and Nigeria (-10.4% per year).

In 2021, the import price in ECOWAS amounted to $X per unit, growing by 12% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a perceptible descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 24% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2019 to 2021, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
