Ecg Market Size in ECOWAS

After nine years of growth, the ECOWAS ECG market decreased by -18.4% to $X in 2021. Overall, consumption, however, continues to indicate strong growth. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X, and then fell rapidly in the following year.

Ecg Production in ECOWAS

In value terms, ECG production dropped dramatically to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, continues to indicate a buoyant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 61% against the previous year. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X, and then dropped significantly in the following year.

Exports by Country

Cote d'Ivoire was the major exporter of electro-cardiographs in ECOWAS, with the volume of exports resulting at X units, which was approx. 47% of total exports in 2021. Benin (X units) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Ghana (X units), Nigeria (X units) and Senegal (X units). All these countries together took near 53% share of total exports.

Cote d'Ivoire was also the fastest-growing in terms of the electro-cardiographs exports, with a CAGR of +18.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Ghana (+8.0%) and Benin (+3.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Senegal experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Nigeria (-4.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Cote d'Ivoire (+34 p.p.), Benin (+21 p.p.) and Ghana (+3.9 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Senegal and Nigeria saw its share reduced by -2.8% and -9.5% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, the largest ECG supplying countries in ECOWAS were Cote d'Ivoire ($X), Benin ($X) and Nigeria ($X), together accounting for 89% of total exports.

Cote d'Ivoire, with a CAGR of +22.2%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

Ecg Imports

Imports in ECOWAS

In 2021, approx. X units of electro-cardiographs were imported in ECOWAS; reducing by -24.1% against 2020 figures. In general, imports, however, showed resilient growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 168%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X units in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, ECG imports dropped to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 160%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Nigeria represented the key importer of electro-cardiographs in ECOWAS, with the volume of imports amounting to X units, which was approx. 54% of total imports in 2021. Ghana (X units) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 22% share, followed by Cote d'Ivoire (7.2%). Guinea (X units), Senegal (X units), Liberia (X units) and Benin (X units) held a minor share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to ECG imports into Nigeria stood at +25.2%. At the same time, Guinea (+43.9%), Benin (+19.6%), Ghana (+5.3%), Cote d'Ivoire (+1.7%) and Senegal (+1.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Guinea emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in ECOWAS, with a CAGR of +43.9% from 2012-2021. Liberia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Nigeria and Guinea increased by +37 and +3.6 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Ghana ($X), Nigeria ($X) and Cote d'Ivoire ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 79% of total imports. These countries were followed by Senegal, Guinea, Benin and Liberia, which together accounted for a further 13%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Guinea, with a CAGR of +42.6%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in ECOWAS amounted to $X per unit, rising by 29% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 an increase of 107%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Senegal ($X per unit), while Liberia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Senegal (+10.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
