The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by 378%. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, electronic metal tester exports declined markedly to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, showed a measured increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 137%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Nigeria represented the largest exporter of electronic machines and appliances for testing metals in ECOWAS, with the volume of exports amounting to X units, which was near 81% of total exports in 2021. Senegal (X units) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Ghana (X units). All these countries together took near 17% share of total exports. Cote d'Ivoire (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Nigeria was also the fastest-growing in terms of the electronic machines and appliances for testing metals exports, with a CAGR of +17.6% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Senegal (+14.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Ghana (-3.7%) and Cote d'Ivoire (-9.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Nigeria (+30 p.p.) and Senegal (+2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Cote d'Ivoire and Ghana saw its share reduced by -12.9% and -15.7% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.
In value terms, the largest electronic metal tester supplying countries in ECOWAS were Nigeria ($X), Ghana ($X) and Senegal ($X), with a combined 92% share of total exports.
Ghana, with a CAGR of +11.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in ECOWAS amounted to $X per unit, waning by -13.7% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a abrupt setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the export price increased by 265%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2019 to 2021, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Ghana ($X per unit), while Senegal ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ghana (+16.0%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in ECOWAS
In 2021, supplies from abroad of electronic machines and appliances for testing metals decreased by -83.3% to X units for the first time since 2016, thus ending a four-year rising trend. Overall, imports, however, recorded resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 471%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units, and then reduced rapidly in the following year.
In value terms, electronic metal tester imports dropped markedly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 298%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then reduced notably in the following year.
Imports by Country
The purchases of the three major importers of electronic machines and appliances for testing metals, namely Togo, Guinea and Nigeria, represented more than two-thirds of total import. It was distantly followed by Cote d'Ivoire (X units), Senegal (X units) and Ghana (X units), together mixing up a 23% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Guinea (with a CAGR of +51.7%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Nigeria ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported electronic machines and appliances for testing metals in ECOWAS, comprising 41% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Togo ($X), with an 18% share of total imports. It was followed by Cote d'Ivoire, with a 16% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Nigeria amounted to +12.8%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Togo (+36.1% per year) and Cote d'Ivoire (+34.8% per year).

The import price in ECOWAS stood at $X per unit in 2021, increasing by 28% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 29% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2017 to 2021, the import prices remained at a lower figure.
