Exercise Book Market Size in ECOWAS

The ECOWAS exercise book market fell to $X in 2022, declining by -6.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption showed a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of the market failed to regain momentum.

Exercise Book Production in ECOWAS

In value terms, exercise book production reduced to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production continues to indicate a mild decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the production volume increased by 47%. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.

Exports in ECOWAS

After three years of decline, shipments abroad of exercise books increased by 32% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a deep slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 39%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, exercise book exports surged to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, showed a abrupt downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 55% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Cote d'Ivoire dominates exports structure, amounting to X tons, which was near 83% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Togo (X tons), making up an 8.3% share of total exports. Senegal (X tons), Ghana (X tons) and Niger (X tons) held a little share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to exercise book exports from Cote d'Ivoire stood at -4.6%. At the same time, Ghana (+27.7%) and Niger (+23.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Ghana emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in ECOWAS, with a CAGR of +27.7% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Togo (-2.7%) and Senegal (-14.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Cote d'Ivoire, Ghana, Niger and Togo increased by +5, +2.4, +2.1 and +2 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, Cote d'Ivoire ($X) remains the largest exercise book supplier in ECOWAS, comprising 83% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Togo ($X), with a 6.2% share of total exports. It was followed by Ghana, with a 4.3% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Cote d'Ivoire amounted to -8.8%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Togo (+10.9% per year) and Ghana (+29.8% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in ECOWAS amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 2.4% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a pronounced curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 20% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Ghana ($X per ton), while Niger ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Togo (+13.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in ECOWAS

In 2022, exercise book imports in ECOWAS fell modestly to X tons, waning by -4.3% against the previous year's figure. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 18%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons, and then declined in the following year.

In value terms, exercise book imports contracted to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 31% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Togo (X tons) and Burkina Faso (X tons) represented roughly 45% of total imports in 2022. Guinea (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 9.7% share, followed by Benin (7.5%), Senegal (6.6%), Cote d'Ivoire (6.5%), Ghana (6.4%) and Mali (4.9%).

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Mali (with a CAGR of +20.5%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Burkina Faso ($X), Guinea ($X) and Senegal ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 40% share of total imports. Togo, Ghana, Benin, Mali and Cote d'Ivoire lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 40%.

Mali, with a CAGR of +21.9%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in ECOWAS amounted to $X per ton, shrinking by -7.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a perceptible curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of 12% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2016 to 2022, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Senegal ($X per ton), while Togo ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
