In value terms, fire-fighting vehicle production rose remarkably to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, continues to indicate a pronounced reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when the production volume increased by 31%. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X. From 2015 to 2021, production growth failed to regain momentum.

Exports in ECOWAS

In 2021, approx. X units of fire-fighting vehicles were exported in ECOWAS; standing approx. at 2020. In general, exports saw a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 200%. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, fire-fighting vehicle exports expanded slightly to $X in 2021. Overall, exports recorded a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 242% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Cote d'Ivoire was the largest exporting country with an export of around X units, which amounted to 60% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Benin (X units), comprising a 40% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Cote d'Ivoire (with a CAGR of +20.1%).

In value terms, Cote d'Ivoire ($X) remains the largest fire-fighting vehicle supplier in ECOWAS, comprising 87% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Benin ($X), with a 12% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Cote d'Ivoire totaled +24.5%.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in ECOWAS stood at $X per unit in 2021, increasing by 3.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the export price increased by 14% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Cote d'Ivoire ($X per unit), while Benin totaled $X per unit.

From 2015 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Cote d'Ivoire (+7.1%).

Fire-Fighting Vehicle Imports

Imports in ECOWAS

After three years of growth, supplies from abroad of fire-fighting vehicles decreased by -29.5% to X units in 2021. In general, imports continue to indicate a perceptible slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 126% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X units in 2020, and then reduced dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, fire-fighting vehicle imports shrank significantly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed a modest expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 122% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Nigeria represented the key importing country with an import of about X units, which recorded 47% of total imports. Senegal (X units) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 12% share, followed by Mali (8.5%), Guinea (7.8%) and Ghana (5.4%). The following importers - Cote d'Ivoire (X units), Cabo Verde (X units), Niger (X units), Sierra Leone (X units), Burkina Faso (X units), Benin (X units) and Togo (X units) - together made up 19% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to fire-fighting vehicle imports into Nigeria stood at -6.4%. At the same time, Sierra Leone (+16.7%), Senegal (+13.0%), Benin (+10.4%), Ghana (+9.9%), Guinea (+5.8%), Mali (+3.6%) and Niger (+3.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Sierra Leone emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in ECOWAS, with a CAGR of +16.7% from 2012-2021. Togo experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Cote d'Ivoire (-3.7%), Cabo Verde (-6.0%) and Burkina Faso (-7.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Senegal, Guinea, Ghana, Mali, Sierra Leone and Benin increased by +8.5, +4, +3.6, +3.5, +2.5 and +1.6 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Nigeria ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported fire-fighting vehicles in ECOWAS, comprising 46% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Senegal ($X), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by Mali, with an 8% share.

In Nigeria, fire-fighting vehicle imports expanded at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Senegal (+18.5% per year) and Mali (-4.6% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in ECOWAS amounted to $X per unit, waning by -5.9% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a moderate increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 221%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2014 to 2021, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Sierra Leone ($X per unit), while Benin ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Nigeria (+9.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
