The biggest shipments were from Gambia (X tons) and Senegal (X tons), together resulting at 100% of total export.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Gambia (with a CAGR of +30.4%).

In value terms, Senegal ($X) remains the largest frozen scallops, including queen scallop supplier in ECOWAS, comprising 81% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Gambia ($X), with a 19% share of total exports.

In Senegal, frozen scallops, including queen scallop exports expanded at an average annual rate of +5.5% over the period from 2012-2021.

In 2021, the export price in ECOWAS amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -59.9% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a pronounced setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 an increase of 94% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2020, and then dropped rapidly in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Senegal ($X per ton), while Gambia stood at $X per ton.

In 2021, overseas purchases of frozen scallops, including queen scallop decreased by -11% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after eight years of growth. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 46%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, frozen scallops, including queen scallop imports stood at $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, saw a measured increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 107%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

The purchases of the three major importers of frozen scallops, including queen scallop, namely Senegal, Mali and Cote d'Ivoire, represented more than two-thirds of total import. Cabo Verde (X kg) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 6.4% share, followed by Togo (4.7%). The following importers - Liberia (X kg) and Ghana (X kg) - each reached a 7.5% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Mali (with a CAGR of +79.2%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Cote d'Ivoire ($X), Mali ($X) and Senegal ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 65% of total imports.

In terms of the main importing countries, Mali, with a CAGR of +67.5%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in ECOWAS stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 13% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a perceptible reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 41% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Ghana ($X per ton), while Senegal ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ghana (+17.8%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
