Market Size for Gas and Smoke Analysers in ECOWAS

In 2021, the ECOWAS gas and smoke analyser market decreased by -8.7% to $X for the first time since 2016, thus ending a four-year rising trend. Over the period under review, consumption, however, continues to indicate a remarkable increase. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2020, and then contracted in the following year.

Production of Gas and Smoke Analysers in ECOWAS

In value terms, gas and smoke analyser production contracted to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, saw a prominent increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 38%. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2020, and then reduced in the following year.

Exports of Gas and Smoke Analysers

Exports in ECOWAS

In 2021, the amount of gas and smoke analysers exported in ECOWAS totaled X units, picking up by 3.9% compared with the year before. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 144% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X units. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, gas and smoke analyser exports contracted remarkably to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, recorded a perceptible decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by 234%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

In 2021, Cote d'Ivoire (X units) represented the largest exporter of gas and smoke analysers, comprising 45% of total exports. Nigeria (X units) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Guinea (X units), Benin (X units) and Burkina Faso (X units). All these countries together took near 50% share of total exports. Cabo Verde (X units) took a little share of total exports.

Exports from Cote d'Ivoire increased at an average annual rate of +23.0% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Burkina Faso (+133.2%) and Guinea (+48.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Burkina Faso emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in ECOWAS, with a CAGR of +133.2% from 2012-2021. Benin experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Cabo Verde (-4.0%) and Nigeria (-17.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Cote d'Ivoire, Guinea, Burkina Faso and Benin increased by +40, +15, +7.4 and +3 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Nigeria ($X), Guinea ($X) and Burkina Faso ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 61% share of total exports.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Burkina Faso, with a CAGR of +46.4%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in ECOWAS stood at $X per unit in 2021, falling by -27.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 84% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2014 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Cabo Verde ($X per unit), while Cote d'Ivoire ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Cabo Verde (+19.0%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports of Gas and Smoke Analysers

Imports in ECOWAS

In 2021, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in purchases abroad of gas and smoke analysers, when their volume decreased by -21.6% to X units. Overall, imports, however, showed a perceptible expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 80%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units, and then shrank sharply in the following year.

In value terms, gas and smoke analyser imports rose to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, showed a resilient expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 78%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

Nigeria represented the key importer of gas and smoke analysers in ECOWAS, with the volume of imports resulting at X units, which was approx. 76% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Cote d'Ivoire (X units), constituting an 11% share of total imports. The following importers - Ghana (X units) and Senegal (X units) - together made up 7.1% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to gas and smoke analyser imports into Nigeria stood at +5.9%. At the same time, Senegal (+23.0%) and Cote d'Ivoire (+13.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Senegal emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in ECOWAS, with a CAGR of +23.0% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Ghana (-8.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Nigeria (+6.6 p.p.), Cote d'Ivoire (+6 p.p.) and Senegal (+2.5 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Ghana saw its share reduced by -8.4% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, the largest gas and smoke analyser importing markets in ECOWAS were Nigeria ($X), Ghana ($X) and Cote d'Ivoire ($X), together accounting for 77% of total imports.

Cote d'Ivoire, with a CAGR of +16.9%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in ECOWAS stood at $X per unit in 2021, picking up by 32% against the previous year. Overall, the import price posted slight growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the import price increased by 44% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Ghana ($X per unit), while Nigeria ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ghana (+17.7%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
