In 2021, shipments abroad of goat or kid hides and skins decreased by -20.4% to X tons, falling for the fourth consecutive year after two years of growth. In general, exports recorded a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 70% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, goat hides and skins exports expanded rapidly to $X in 2021. Overall, exports recorded a perceptible slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 156% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Nigeria was the key exporting country with an export of around X tons, which recorded 40% of total exports. Senegal (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Ghana (X tons), Togo (X tons) and Benin (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 56% share of total exports. Burkina Faso (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Benin (with a CAGR of +85.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest goat hides and skins supplying countries in ECOWAS were Nigeria ($X), Ghana ($X) and Senegal ($X), with a combined 93% share of total exports.
Ghana, with a CAGR of +85.1%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in ECOWAS amounted to $X per ton, rising by 32% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a buoyant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 70%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Ghana ($X per ton), while Benin ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ghana (+15.6%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

After five years of growth, supplies from abroad of goat or kid hides and skins decreased by -45.7% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 175%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2020, and then dropped significantly in the following year.
In value terms, goat hides and skins imports reduced remarkably to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, saw significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 247%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then declined remarkably in the following year.

The countries with the highest levels of goat hides and skins imports in 2021 were Nigeria (X tons), together resulting at 99% of total import.
Nigeria was also the fastest-growing in terms of the goat or kid hides and skins imports, with a CAGR of +62.8% from 2012 to 2021.
