In 2021, overseas shipments of hand-held blow pipes for soldering, brazing or welding decreased by -17.5% to X units, falling for the fourth year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, exports saw a noticeable contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 77% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X units in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, hand-held blow pipe exports fell modestly to $X in 2021. In general, exports showed a abrupt contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when exports increased by 30% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Ghana represented the key exporting country with an export of around X units, which accounted for 52% of total exports. Cote d'Ivoire (X units) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 17% share, followed by Senegal (12%), Nigeria (8%) and Togo (7.2%). The following exporters - Benin (X units) and Cabo Verde (X units) - each accounted for a 3.8% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to hand-held blow pipe exports from Ghana stood at -1.1%. At the same time, Senegal (+19.8%) and Cote d'Ivoire (+12.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Senegal emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in ECOWAS, with a CAGR of +19.8% from 2012-2021. Nigeria experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Benin (-7.4%), Cabo Verde (-8.8%) and Togo (-16.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Cote d'Ivoire (+12 p.p.), Senegal (+10 p.p.), Ghana (+8.8 p.p.) and Nigeria (+1.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Togo saw its share reduced by -21% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Ghana ($X), Senegal ($X) and Cote d'Ivoire ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, together accounting for 85% of total exports.
Senegal, with a CAGR of +22.2%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in ECOWAS stood at $X per unit in 2021, with an increase of 16% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a noticeable curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 66% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Senegal ($X per unit), while Nigeria ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Cabo Verde (+5.1%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in ECOWAS
In 2021, supplies from abroad of hand-held blow pipes for soldering, brazing or welding decreased by -52.4% to X units, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. In general, imports, however, enjoyed significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 265% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, hand-held blow pipe imports declined sharply to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 333% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Nigeria dominates imports structure, reaching X units, which was near 89% of total imports in 2021. Cote d'Ivoire (X units), Senegal (X units) and Ghana (X units) took a relatively small share of total imports.
Nigeria was also the fastest-growing in terms of the hand-held blow pipes for soldering, brazing or welding imports, with a CAGR of +63.3% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Cote d'Ivoire (+5.9%), Senegal (+5.5%) and Ghana (+1.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Nigeria increased by +76 percentage points.
In value terms, Nigeria ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported hand-held blow pipes for soldering, brazing or welding in ECOWAS, comprising 91% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Cote d'Ivoire ($X), with a 2.3% share of total imports. It was followed by Senegal, with a 2.2% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Nigeria amounted to +63.1%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Cote d'Ivoire (+7.0% per year) and Senegal (+24.0% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in ECOWAS amounted to $X per unit, falling by -41.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, posted prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 42%. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2020, and then shrank significantly in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Ghana ($X per unit), while Cote d'Ivoire ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Senegal (+17.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
