The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when the production volume increased by 45% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production reached the maximum level at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.

Exports in ECOWAS
For the fifth consecutive year, ECOWAS recorded decline in shipments abroad of homogenised preparations of jams, fruit jellies and marmalades, which decreased by -48.6% to X tons in 2022. Overall, exports recorded a abrupt decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by 170% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, homogenised jam and marmalade exports dropped significantly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports showed a deep downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 219% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Mali represented the major exporter of homogenised preparations of jams, fruit jellies and marmalades in ECOWAS, with the volume of exports amounting to X tons, which was near 54% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Nigeria (X tons), Cote d'Ivoire (X tons), Burkina Faso (X tons) and Senegal (X tons), together mixing up a 45% share of total exports.
Mali was also the fastest-growing in terms of the homogenised preparations of jams, fruit jellies and marmalades exports, with a CAGR of +15.4% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Nigeria (+11.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Cote d'Ivoire (-5.0%), Burkina Faso (-11.9%) and Senegal (-13.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Mali (+50 p.p.), Nigeria (+16 p.p.) and Cote d'Ivoire (+7.8 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Nigeria ($X) remains the largest homogenised jam and marmalade supplier in ECOWAS, comprising 38% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Mali ($X), with a 19% share of total exports. It was followed by Cote d'Ivoire, with a 17% share.
In Nigeria, homogenised jam and marmalade exports increased at an average annual rate of +18.6% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Mali (+8.7% per year) and Cote d'Ivoire (+0.2% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in ECOWAS stood at $X per ton in 2022, surging by 36% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price posted a strong increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the export price increased by 171%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Senegal ($X per ton), while Mali ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Burkina Faso (+7.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Homogenised Preparations Of Jams, Fruit Jellies And Marmalades
Imports in ECOWAS
In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas purchases of homogenised preparations of jams, fruit jellies and marmalades, when their volume decreased by -10.2% to X tons. Total imports indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +60.1% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 33%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2021, and then dropped in the following year.
In value terms, homogenised jam and marmalade imports declined to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +85.0% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 37% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then contracted in the following year.
Imports by Country
The countries with the highest levels of homogenised jam and marmalade imports in 2022 were Cote d'Ivoire (X tons), Ghana (X tons), Senegal (X tons), Cabo Verde (X tons) and Mali (X tons), together accounting for 77% of total import. Nigeria (X tons) took a 6.6% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Burkina Faso (6.3%) and Benin (5%).
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Mali (with a CAGR of +32.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest homogenised jam and marmalade importing markets in ECOWAS were Cote d'Ivoire ($X), Senegal ($X) and Mali ($X), together comprising 66% of total imports.
Among the main importing countries, Mali, with a CAGR of +39.5%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in ECOWAS stood at $X per ton in 2022, falling by -4.3% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 an increase of 24%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Mali ($X per ton), while Burkina Faso ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
