The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by 190%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, Nigeria (X units), distantly followed by Ghana (X units), Senegal (X units), Cote d'Ivoire (X units) and Togo (X units) represented the key exporters of injection-moulding machines for working rubber or plastics, together committing 100% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Senegal (with a CAGR of 0.0%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

In value terms, Senegal ($X) remains the largest injection-moulding machine supplier in ECOWAS, comprising 50% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Ghana ($X), with a 22% share of total exports. It was followed by Togo, with a 15% share.

In Senegal, injection-moulding machine exports expanded at an average annual rate of +7.3% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Ghana (+61.6% per year) and Togo (+2.3% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in ECOWAS amounted to $X per unit, dropping by -2.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, posted a prominent increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when the export price increased by 90% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per unit in 2021, and then fell in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Togo ($X per unit), while Nigeria ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ghana (+68.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in ECOWAS

In 2022, supplies from abroad of injection-moulding machines for working rubber or plastics was finally on the rise to reach X units for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, imports showed a strong increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 102% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, injection-moulding machine imports shrank slightly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a buoyant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 115%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Nigeria prevails in imports structure, accounting for X units, which was approx. 81% of total imports in 2022. Ghana (X units) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 9.7% share, followed by Cote d'Ivoire (5.4%).

Nigeria was also the fastest-growing in terms of the injection-moulding machines for working rubber or plastics imports, with a CAGR of +16.2% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Ghana (+7.5%) and Cote d'Ivoire (+6.4%) displayed positive paces of growth.
