After two years of growth, overseas shipments of iron or steel doors, thresholds for doors and windows decreased by -12% to X units in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw resilient growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 131% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.

In value terms, exports of iron or steel doors, thresholds for doors and windows declined to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, recorded strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 51% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2021, and then declined in the following year.

Exports by Country

Ghana dominates windows structure, resulting at X units, which was approx. 86% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Togo (X units), achieving a 4.6% share of total exports. Senegal (X units) and Nigeria (X units) held a relatively small share of total exports.

Ghana was also the fastest-growing in terms of the iron or steel doors, thresholds for doors and windows exports, with a CAGR of +73.9% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Togo (+15.5%) and Senegal (+13.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Nigeria (-14.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. In Ghana, exports of iron or steel doors, thresholds for doors and windows increased at an average annual rate of +72.4% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Senegal (+13.5% per year) and Togo (+17.0% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in ECOWAS stood at $X per unit in 2022, increasing by 7.5% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the export price increased by 61% against the previous year. There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Senegal ($X per unit), while Ghana ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Togo (+1.3%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in ECOWAS

In 2022, purchases abroad of iron or steel doors, thresholds for doors and windows decreased by -20.4% to X units, falling for the second year in a row after four years of growth. In general, imports saw a abrupt contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 48% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, imports of iron or steel doors, thresholds for doors and windows declined to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded a perceptible downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 85% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports of reached the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Ghana (X units) and Nigeria (X units) dominates windows structure, together achieving 80% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Togo (X units), creating a 7.5% share of total imports.
