After two years of decline, the ECOWAS metal flexible tubing market increased by 15% to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, consumption saw resilient growth. Over the period under review, the market attained the peak level at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.
Metal Flexible Tubing Production in ECOWAS
In value terms, metal flexible tubing production contracted modestly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. The total production indicated a noticeable increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, production decreased by -5.5% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 29%. The level of production peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, production failed to regain momentum.

Exports in ECOWAS
Metal flexible tubing exports skyrocketed to X tons in 2021, growing by 164% against 2020 figures. In general, exports, however, recorded a slight curtailment. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, metal flexible tubing exports reduced dramatically to $X in 2021. Overall, exports recorded a moderate expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 692%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Cote d'Ivoire prevails in exports structure, finishing at X tons, which was near 82% of total exports in 2021. Benin (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with an 8.7% share, followed by Ghana (7.2%). Togo (X kg) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Exports from Cote d'Ivoire increased at an average annual rate of +53.4% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Benin (+99.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Benin emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in ECOWAS, with a CAGR of +99.9% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Ghana (-21.7%) and Togo (-31.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Cote d'Ivoire and Benin increased by +80 and +8.7 percentage points, respectively.
In value terms, Cote d'Ivoire ($X) remains the largest metal flexible tubing supplier in ECOWAS, comprising 86% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Benin ($X), with a 7.7% share of total exports. It was followed by Ghana, with a 2.7% share.
In Cote d'Ivoire, metal flexible tubing exports increased at an average annual rate of +39.0% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Benin (+134.5% per year) and Ghana (-22.6% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in ECOWAS stood at $X per ton in 2021, with a decrease of -74.2% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, posted resilient growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 373%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Cote d'Ivoire ($X per ton), while Ghana ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Benin (+17.3%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.
Metal Flexible Tubing Imports
Imports in ECOWAS
In 2021, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas purchases of iron or steel flexible tubing, when their volume increased by 139% to X tons. Over the period under review, imports posted a prominent increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 936%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, metal flexible tubing imports expanded modestly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports showed a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 892% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Ghana (X tons) represented the major importer of iron or steel flexible tubing, mixing up 62% of total imports. Nigeria (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Cote d'Ivoire (X tons) and Senegal (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 29% share of total imports. The following importers - Guinea (X tons), Benin (X tons) and Liberia (X tons) - each recorded a 5.6% share of total imports.
Imports into Ghana increased at an average annual rate of +15.7% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Guinea (+36.2%), Liberia (+29.6%), Senegal (+29.2%), Benin (+20.6%), Nigeria (+14.0%) and Cote d'Ivoire (+11.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Guinea emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in ECOWAS, with a CAGR of +36.2% from 2012-2021. Senegal (+4.1 p.p.) and Guinea (+1.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Nigeria and Cote d'Ivoire saw its share reduced by -1.8% and -2.6% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Ghana ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported iron or steel flexible tubing in ECOWAS, comprising 51% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Nigeria ($X), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by Cote d'Ivoire, with a 13% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Ghana totaled +12.7%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Nigeria (+9.2% per year) and Cote d'Ivoire (+16.3% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in ECOWAS stood at $X per ton in 2021, which is down by -56.2% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a slight contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the import price increased by 61% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton, and then shrank significantly in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Cote d'Ivoire ($X per ton), while Benin ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
