The average lemon and lime yield rose slightly to X tons per ha in 2022, with an increase of 2.8% on the year before. In general, the yield, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 9.8% against the previous year. As a result, the yield attained the peak level of X tons per ha. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the lemon and lime yield remained at a somewhat lower figure. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 441% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, Nigeria (X tons), distantly followed by Burkina Faso (X tons), Cote d'Ivoire (X tons), Senegal (X tons) and Ghana (X tons) were the largest exporters of lemons and limes, together committing 92% of total exports. Guinea (X kg) and Togo (X kg) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Cote d'Ivoire (with a CAGR of +18.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Cote d'Ivoire ($X), Nigeria ($X) and Burkina Faso ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, together accounting for 85% of total exports.

Imports in ECOWAS
In 2022, the amount of lemons and limes imported in ECOWAS expanded markedly to X tons, growing by 7.4% compared with the previous year's figure. In general, imports showed a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 223% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, lemon and lime imports shrank to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports enjoyed a resilient increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 95% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.

In 2022, Nigeria (X tons) and Cabo Verde (X tons) were the key importers of lemons and limes in ECOWAS, together committing 61% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Cote d'Ivoire (X tons), Mali (X tons) and Ghana (X tons), together making up a 34% share of total imports. Burkina Faso (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Burkina Faso (with a CAGR of +73.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Cabo Verde ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported lemons and limes in ECOWAS, comprising 45% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Nigeria ($X), with a 21% share of total imports. It was followed by Cote d'Ivoire, with an 18% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Cabo Verde stood at +11.4%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Nigeria (+43.2% per year) and Cote d'Ivoire (+23.4% per year).
