The ECOWAS lifting equipment market amounted to $X in 2021, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. Overall, consumption, however, continues to indicate a mild descent. In value terms, lifting equipment exports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, exports showed mild growth. The level of export peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Senegal dominates exports structure, recording X units, which was near 96% of total exports in 2021. Nigeria (X units) took a relatively small share of total exports.

Senegal was also the fastest-growing in terms of the lifting equipment exports, with a CAGR of +28.7% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Nigeria (+2.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. While the share of Senegal (+55 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Nigeria (-7.2 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Senegal ($X) emerged as the largest lifting equipment supplier in ECOWAS, comprising 95% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Nigeria ($X), with a 4.2% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Senegal amounted to +37.7%.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in ECOWAS stood at $X per unit in 2021, falling by -4.7% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a deep slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 an increase of 208% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Nigeria ($X per unit), while Senegal stood at $X per unit.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Nigeria (+21.3%).

Lifting Equipment Imports

Imports in ECOWAS

In 2021, the amount of lifting equipment imported in ECOWAS soared to X units, increasing by 25% compared with the previous year. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when imports increased by 1,196% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, lifting equipment imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, imports showed a temperate increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 249% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Cote d'Ivoire (X units) and Senegal (X units) represented the main importers of lifting equipment in 2021, reaching approx. 30% and 24% of total imports, respectively. Cabo Verde (X units) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 9.7% share, followed by Ghana (9.1%) and Nigeria (8.5%). Mali (X units) and Guinea (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Nigeria (with a CAGR of +30.5%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Nigeria ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported lifting equipment in ECOWAS, comprising 41% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Cote d'Ivoire ($X), with an 18% share of total imports. It was followed by Senegal, with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Nigeria totaled +25.5%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Cote d'Ivoire (+11.4% per year) and Senegal (+2.4% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in ECOWAS amounted to $X per unit, picking up by 11% against the previous year. In general, the import price enjoyed a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the import price increased by 1,287%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Nigeria ($X per unit), while Cabo Verde ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mali (+18.5%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
