Paper Making Machinery Market Size in ECOWAS
The ECOWAS paper making machinery market amounted to $X in 2021, picking up by 9% against the previous year. The total consumption indicated pronounced growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the last nine years. In value terms, paper making machinery production dropped modestly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. The total production indicated notable growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, production decreased by +0.5% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 29% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, production remained at a lower figure.
Paper Making Machinery Exports
Exports in ECOWAS
After three years of growth, shipments abroad of machinery for making up paper pulp, paper or paperboard decreased by -20% to X units in 2021. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate noticeable growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 440%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X units. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, paper making machinery exports fell dramatically to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, posted a perceptible expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 464%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Senegal was the key exporting country with an export of about X units, which accounted for 75% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Ghana (X units), committing a 25% share of total exports.
Senegal was also the fastest-growing in terms of the machinery for making up paper pulp, paper or paperboard exports, with a CAGR of +13.0% from 2012 to 2021. Ghana experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Senegal and Ghana increased by +42 and +25 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Ghana ($X) remains the largest paper making machinery supplier in ECOWAS, comprising 38% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Senegal ($X), with a 16% share of total exports.
In Ghana, paper making machinery exports expanded at an average annual rate of +57.3% over the period from 2012-2021.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in ECOWAS amounted to $X per unit, reducing by -31.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the export price increased by 1,680% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2018 to 2021, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Ghana ($X per unit), while Senegal stood at $X per unit.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Senegal (+48.0%).
Paper Making Machinery Imports
Imports in ECOWAS
Paper making machinery imports skyrocketed to X units in 2021, growing by 35% on the previous year. In general, imports enjoyed buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 115% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.
In value terms, paper making machinery imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a noticeable downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 123%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Nigeria was the major importing country with an import of about X units, which accounted for 72% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Ghana (X units), comprising a 17% share of total imports. Benin (X units), Guinea (X units) and Senegal (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to paper making machinery imports into Nigeria stood at +8.5%. At the same time, Guinea (+51.5%), Ghana (+20.2%), Benin (+11.6%) and Senegal (+8.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Guinea emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in ECOWAS, with a CAGR of +51.5% from 2012-2021. Ghana (+10 p.p.) and Guinea (+2.4 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Nigeria saw its share reduced by -3.6% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Nigeria ($X), Ghana ($X) and Senegal ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 91% of total imports. These countries were followed by Benin and Guinea, which together accounted for a further 4.7%.
Guinea, with a CAGR of +61.2%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in ECOWAS amounted to $X per unit, falling by -9.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a deep setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when the import price increased by 39%. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Senegal ($X per unit), while Guinea ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Benin (+12.9%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
