In 2022, the average yield of meat and poultry in ECOWAS stood at X kg per head, flattening at 2021. Overall, the yield, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, the yield reached the peak level of X kg per head. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the meat and poultry yield remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In 2022, the number of animals slaughtered for meat and poultry production in ECOWAS shrank to X heads, stabilizing at the previous year. Exports in ECOWAS
In 2022, shipments abroad of meat and poultry decreased by X% to X tons, falling for the fourth consecutive year after two years of growth. In general, exports recorded a drastic downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, meat and poultry exports dropped rapidly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports showed a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by X%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Benin dominates exports structure, resulting at X tons, which was approx. X% of total exports in 2022. Ghana (X tons) held a X% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Liberia (X%). Togo (X tons), Cabo Verde (X tons), Cote d'Ivoire (X tons) and Senegal (X tons) held a little share of total exports.
Exports from Benin decreased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Liberia (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Liberia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in ECOWAS, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Cabo Verde (X%), Cote d'Ivoire (X%), Senegal (X%), Ghana (X%) and Togo (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Liberia (X p.p.), Ghana (X p.p.), Cabo Verde (X p.p.), Cote d'Ivoire (X p.p.) and Senegal (X p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Benin (X p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Benin ($X) remains the largest meat and poultry supplier in ECOWAS, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Cote d'Ivoire ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Senegal, with a X% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Benin amounted to X%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Cote d'Ivoire (X% per year) and Senegal (X% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in ECOWAS stood at $X per ton in 2022, which is down by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Senegal ($X per ton), while Togo ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2021, and then shrank modestly in the following year.

Gambia (X tons) and Togo (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
