The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 114% against the previous year. In 2022, Senegal (X units) was the main exporter of medical, surgical or laboratory sterilisers, making up 46% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Cote d'Ivoire (X units), Ghana (X units) and Nigeria (X units), together comprising a 54% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Senegal (with a CAGR of +19.6%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.

In value terms, the largest medical steriliser supplying countries in ECOWAS were Senegal ($X), Cote d'Ivoire ($X) and Ghana ($X), together comprising 96% of total exports.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Senegal, with a CAGR of -1.3%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of 103%. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in Ghana ($X per unit) and Senegal ($X per unit), while Cote d'Ivoire ($X per unit) and Nigeria ($X per unit) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Nigeria (+17.4%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in ECOWAS

In 2022, medical steriliser imports in ECOWAS declined remarkably to X units, which is down by -29.3% compared with 2021 figures. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 203% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, medical steriliser imports dropped to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 215% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Nigeria represented the major importer of medical, surgical or laboratory sterilisers in ECOWAS, with the volume of imports finishing at X units, which was near 50% of total imports in 2022. Ghana (X units) held a 25% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Cote d'Ivoire (9.9%) and Senegal (5.6%). Mali (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Mali (with a CAGR of +36.6%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest medical steriliser importing markets in ECOWAS were Nigeria ($X), Ghana ($X) and Cote d'Ivoire ($X), together accounting for 82% of total imports. These countries were followed by Senegal and Mali, which together accounted for a further 7.5%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Mali, with a CAGR of +41.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in ECOWAS stood at $X per unit in 2022, surging by 30% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a mild downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 an increase of 62%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2014 to 2022, the import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Cote d'Ivoire ($X per unit), while Senegal ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mali (+3.6%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
