The ECOWAS mixed juices market declined to $X in 2022, leveling off at the previous year. In general, consumption saw a pronounced slump. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, mixed juices production stood at $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production recorded a pronounced decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 15% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in ECOWAS
Mixed juices exports declined rapidly to X tons in 2022, with a decrease of -26.6% on 2021 figures. Over the period under review, exports, however, posted a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 84% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, mixed juices exports contracted rapidly to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, enjoyed a strong expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 193% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Ghana represented the key exporting country with an export of around X tons, which accounted for 50% of total exports. Senegal (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Nigeria (X tons) and Togo (X tons). All these countries together took near 45% share of total exports. Cote d'Ivoire (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Togo (with a CAGR of +42.1%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Senegal ($X) remains the largest mixed juices supplier in ECOWAS, comprising 59% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Ghana ($X), with a 22% share of total exports. It was followed by Nigeria, with a 9.3% share.
In Senegal, mixed juices exports increased at an average annual rate of +27.5% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Ghana (+2.6% per year) and Nigeria (+9.0% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in ECOWAS stood at $X per ton in 2022, falling by -14.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the export price increased by 59%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Senegal ($X per ton), while Ghana ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Nigeria (+2.3%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.
Mixed Juices Imports
Imports in ECOWAS
In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in supplies from abroad of mixtures of fruit and vegetable juices, when their volume decreased by -17.4% to X tons. In general, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 34% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2021, and then dropped sharply in the following year.
In value terms, mixed juices imports dropped remarkably to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated measured growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +47.8% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 50% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2021, and then declined remarkably in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Ghana (X tons) was the main importer of mixtures of fruit and vegetable juices, achieving 47% of total imports. Senegal (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Mali (X tons), Guinea-Bissau (X tons) and Guinea (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 28% share of total imports. Burkina Faso (X tons), Cote d'Ivoire (X tons), Gambia (X tons), Nigeria (X tons), Cabo Verde (X tons) and Niger (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Imports into Ghana decreased at an average annual rate of -2.4% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Guinea-Bissau (+30.2%), Mali (+13.2%), Senegal (+10.1%), Burkina Faso (+6.4%), Cote d'Ivoire (+6.1%), Cabo Verde (+5.7%) and Niger (+5.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Guinea-Bissau emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in ECOWAS, with a CAGR of +30.2% from 2012-2022. Guinea experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Gambia (-3.3%) and Nigeria (-8.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Senegal (+7.7 p.p.), Guinea-Bissau (+4.7 p.p.), Mali (+4.4 p.p.), Burkina Faso (+2.1 p.p.) and Cote d'Ivoire (+1.8 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Nigeria and Ghana saw its share reduced by -5.3% and -12.9% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Ghana ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported mixtures of fruit and vegetable juices in ECOWAS, comprising 45% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Senegal ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by Nigeria, with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Ghana stood at +4.5%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Senegal (+11.9% per year) and Nigeria (-8.5% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in ECOWAS amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 1.7% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.8%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 34%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Nigeria ($X per ton), while Burkina Faso ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
