The ECOWAS market for non-citrus fruits not elsewhere classified fell modestly to $X in 2022, remaining stable against the previous year. Overall, consumption, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

From 2015 to 2022, production growth failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, overseas shipments of non-citrus fruits not elsewhere classified decreased by -19.5% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after four years of growth. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 392% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, non-citrus fruits not elsewhere classified exports declined to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, showed a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 320% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Ghana dominates exports structure, accounting for X tons, which was near 94% of total exports in 2022. Burkina Faso (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from Ghana increased at an average annual rate of +55.7% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Burkina Faso (+73.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Burkina Faso emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in ECOWAS, with a CAGR of +73.7% from 2012-2022. Ghana (+86 p.p.) and Burkina Faso (+2.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Ghana ($X) remains the largest non-citrus fruits not elsewhere classified supplier in ECOWAS, comprising 98% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Burkina Faso ($X), with a 1.4% share of total exports.

In Ghana, non-citrus fruits not elsewhere classified exports increased at an average annual rate of +77.7% over the period from 2012-2022.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in ECOWAS stood at $X per ton in 2022, growing by 9% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 189%. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Ghana ($X per ton), while Burkina Faso totaled $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ghana (+14.1%).

In 2022, supplies from abroad of non-citrus fruits not elsewhere classified was finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a strong increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by 124% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

In value terms, non-citrus fruits not elsewhere classified imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Overall, imports recorded a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 74%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Imports by Country

Ghana (X tons) and Nigeria (X tons) represented the main importers of non-citrus fruits not elsewhere classified in 2022, resulting at near 36% and 25% of total imports, respectively. Cote d'Ivoire (X tons) took an 11% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Senegal (7.5%) and Cabo Verde (5.9%). The following importers - Benin (X tons) and Burkina Faso (X tons) - each finished at a 7.8% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Nigeria (with a CAGR of +66.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest non-citrus fruits not elsewhere classified importing markets in ECOWAS were Ghana ($X), Cote d'Ivoire ($X) and Nigeria ($X), together comprising 71% of total imports.

In terms of the main importing countries, Nigeria, with a CAGR of +60.3%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in ECOWAS amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of -3.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 31% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Cote d'Ivoire ($X per ton), while Benin ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
