In value terms, exports of non-plasticised mixed polyvinyl chloride in primary forms declined sharply to $X in 2022. In general, exports continue to indicate a deep contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 231% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Cote d'Ivoire was the largest exporting country with an export of around X tons, which reached 59% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Senegal (X tons), mixing up a 38% share of total exports. Ghana (X tons) held a relatively small share of total exports.

In 2022, overseas purchases of non-plasticised mixed polyvinyl chloride in primary forms increased by 33% to X tons, rising for the sixth year in a row after two years of decline. In general, imports saw buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 69%. The volume of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, imports of non-plasticised mixed polyvinyl chloride in primary forms soared to $X in 2022. Overall, imports continue to indicate a resilient increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 74%. Over the period under review, imports of reached the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

Nigeria prevails in forms structure, reaching X tons, which was approx. 83% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Guinea (X tons), making up a 4.5% share of total imports. Cote d'Ivoire (X tons), Togo (X tons), Ghana (X tons) and Benin (X tons) took a minor share of total imports.

Imports into Nigeria increased at an average annual rate of +18.2% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Guinea (+27.8%), Cote d'Ivoire (+25.5%) and Benin (+13.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Guinea emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in ECOWAS, with a CAGR of +27.8% from 2012-2022. Togo experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Ghana (-4.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Nigeria (+17 p.p.), Togo (+3 p.p.), Guinea (+2.9 p.p.) and Cote d'Ivoire (+2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Ghana saw its share reduced by -12.7% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Nigeria ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported non-plasticised mixed polyvinyl chloride in primary forms in ECOWAS, comprising 82% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Guinea ($X), with a 5.1% share of total imports. It was followed by Cote d'Ivoire, with a 4.1% share.

In Nigeria, imports of non-plasticised mixed polyvinyl chloride in primary forms increased at an average annual rate of +10.9% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Guinea (+28.5% per year) and Cote d'Ivoire (+22.3% per year).
