In 2022, shipments abroad of non-refractory clay flooring blocks, support or filler tiles increased by 65% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a slight setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 182%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the exports of remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, exports of non-refractory clay flooring blocks, support or filler tiles surged to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, recorded a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 143% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the exports of remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Ghana (X tons) and Benin (X tons) dominates tiles structure, together making up 84% of total exports. Togo (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total exports with an 8.6% share, followed by Nigeria (7.3%).

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Togo (with a CAGR of +27.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest non-refractory clay flooring blocks, support or filler tiles supplying countries in ECOWAS were Benin ($X), Ghana ($X) and Nigeria ($X), together accounting for 90% of total exports. These countries were followed by Togo, which accounted for a further 9.7%.

Togo, with a CAGR of +12.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The export price in ECOWAS stood at $X per ton in 2022, dropping by -8.3% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 84% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Nigeria ($X per ton), while Ghana ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Nigeria (+0.8%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in ECOWAS

Imports of non-refractory clay flooring blocks, support or filler tiles dropped markedly to X tons in 2022, which is down by -15.3% against 2021. In general, imports, however, showed significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 789%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2021, and then fell dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, imports of non-refractory clay flooring blocks, support or filler tiles contracted significantly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by 318% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports of attained the maximum at $X in 2021, and then contracted sharply in the following year.

In 2022, Guinea (X tons) represented the key importer of non-refractory clay flooring blocks, support or filler tiles, making up 41% of total imports. Ghana (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 22% share, followed by Nigeria (9.8%), Benin (9.4%), Cote d'Ivoire (5.3%) and Sierra Leone (4.8%). Sierra Leone, Cote d'Ivoire, Nigeria and Cabo Verde lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 16%.

The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when the import price increased by 134% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then declined in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Sierra Leone ($X per ton), while Cabo Verde ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Sierra Leone (+17.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
