The ECOWAS paper tablecloths market fell slightly to $X in 2021, waning by -4.6% against the previous year. Overall, consumption recorded a perceptible decline. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of the market remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, paper tablecloths production declined to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production continues to indicate a pronounced decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when the production volume increased by 16% against the previous year. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X. From 2016 to 2021, production growth remained at a lower figure.

Exports in ECOWAS
In 2021, overseas shipments of paper tablecloths and serviettes decreased by -24.8% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after three years of growth. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 106% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, paper tablecloths exports shrank sharply to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, recorded a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 76%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2020, and then contracted rapidly in the following year.
Exports by Country
Cote d'Ivoire was the major exporting country with an export of around X tons, which amounted to 87% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Ghana (X tons), constituting a 10% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to paper tablecloths exports from Cote d'Ivoire stood at +10.8%. At the same time, Ghana (+25.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Ghana emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in ECOWAS, with a CAGR of +25.7% from 2012-2021. Ghana (+7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Cote d'Ivoire ($X) remains the largest paper tablecloths supplier in ECOWAS, comprising 90% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Ghana ($X), with a 6.2% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Cote d'Ivoire totaled +11.5%.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in ECOWAS stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 2.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 7.9% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Cote d'Ivoire ($X per ton), while Ghana totaled $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Cote d'Ivoire (+0.6%).
Paper Tablecloths Imports
Imports in ECOWAS
In 2021, after four years of growth, there was significant decline in supplies from abroad of paper tablecloths and serviettes, when their volume decreased by -7.4% to X tons. Total imports indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.6% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +62.4% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 24%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2020, and then declined in the following year.
In value terms, paper tablecloths imports reduced to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +8.4% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 34%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2020, and then fell modestly in the following year.
Imports by Country
The purchases of the four major importers of paper tablecloths and serviettes, namely Cabo Verde, Burkina Faso, Ghana and Senegal, represented more than two-thirds of total import. It was distantly followed by Benin (X tons), making up a 5.1% share of total imports. The following importers - Guinea-Bissau (X tons), Cote d'Ivoire (X tons), Guinea (X tons), Nigeria (X tons), Niger (X tons), Gambia (X tons) and Sierra Leone (X tons) - together made up 19% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Nigeria (with a CAGR of +34.8%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest paper tablecloths importing markets in ECOWAS were Cabo Verde ($X), Ghana ($X) and Burkina Faso ($X), together accounting for 57% of total imports. These countries were followed by Senegal, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea, Benin, Cote d'Ivoire, Nigeria, Gambia, Sierra Leone and Niger, which together accounted for a further 39%.
Among the main importing countries, Guinea, with a CAGR of +42.2%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in ECOWAS stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 4.5% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a mild shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the import price increased by 10%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2018 to 2021, the import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Guinea ($X per ton), while Burkina Faso ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Guinea (+8.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
